Our 'blind eye' billion dollar unconditional support of Israel is now coming back to haunt us! Unconditional love comes from our pets, humans are incapable of this as proven time and time again. Don't believe me just pick up and read a history book! We need to be a voice FOR humanity in the UN and for once stand on principle and maybe even present a proposal that the UN can support to end this madness?!?
Isolationism in this case is just tragic. I was so disappointed with our Security Council vote. I do not under stand why votes there have to be unanimous.
USA has been supporting Israel for decades. Not caring about the destruction of Palestinian lands, illegal settlers crimes against them. No matter what they do we GIVE THEM TAXPAYERS' money from USA and don't forget money to develop their anti-missile program. What Israel is doing is inhumane and it is time we stop calling "anti-semitism" any criticism of the genocide that is happening now 18,000 dead Palestinians not enough for Bibi? and Biden and his cabinet has been a disgrace. Israel's occupation could have been stopped instead of supported and this is the result. The famous Balfour treaty a piece of paper signed by the UK should have never been implemented...
This feels like a rote reaction to an alliance built decades ago. This cannot continue and in my mind, the UN is calling out our slavish devotion to that alliance. You always have to self-check in relationships, personal or diplomatic. Is my partner who I want to be partnered with?
It's such a difficult conversation for so many people. I think a lot of conversations don't go on because people are legitimately afraid of offending their friends. I wish there was more space for talking and more trust in the talking.
This is a difficult conversation to have. Let's not forget what Hamas did in the first place on October 7. Let's never forget. As in back in the 1930s when we said never forget and look what happened. Bibi is wrong and evil and I don't know one Jew, including those with family in Israel, who thinks he is anything but wrong. Jews cry for every Palestinian mother losing a child, just as we do for every Jewish mother losing a child. And for mothers of all religions.
It is very important to remember that Palestinians are not Hamas, and Israelis are not their government. Jews around the world have a right to exist, and what is happening now is threatening that right, including on our own college campuses. There are no easy answers, but I would hope in this group, at least, there are civilized discussions. Bessy, I have respected you for years, but I think you went overboard in your comments.
Joan, I love you. Jews have a right to exist, and that Jews mourn the loss of Palestinians is precisely what friends have been saying all along. The frustration some of us felt when Donald Trump was president should give us some insight into how some Israelis feel during this difficult time, with their own leadership. Hamas is a terrorist group and I'd be hard-pressed to understand any argument otherwise. I just cannot accept that this is the only way to fight that group. I could be naive but there is so much collateral damage, how can this be the only way?
You're not naive, Susan, and I love you too. I hope and pray for the seemingly reckless bombings to stop, for a cease fire, for the suffering of the hostages and innocent civilians to stop. I don't accept that this is the only way, but how else to get rid of the evil that is Hamas? Evidence and history show that Hamas intentionally puts its operations underground and cares not at all for the lives of innocent Palestinians. It's how terrorist groups operate. There is only one interpretation of "from the river to the sea." They want to exterminate Israel. I'm not sorry that can't accept that either.
I agree with Bessy and Rich and you. This blind support has to end. Bibi is like Putin in his desire to obliterate Gaza and the Palestinians . We must recognize this. I was shocked by the no vote. 18,000 and counting and the majority being women and children . Letting them starve to death instead of a cease fire is our response.
I wish we could have these conversations without opening the door to Islamophobia or antisemitism -- or accusations thereof. It's a tough conversations to have, but if we don't have it, then the United Nations will have it for us.
Yes! I feel the same way and want to post on fb but I know for some, anything I say against Bibi will hurt them and get others feathers stirred up. He is the worst Israeli leader ever.
For me, it's akin to criticizing a government leader but understanding that leader doesn't represent everyone. In other words, this isn't anti-Israel. It's questioning the tactical moves of a political leader. Hello, Donald Trump.

Richard Haas has the same reaction and he has spent his life on foreign policy matters.

And just to go on the record, I have always been in support of a two-state solution, and believe that that is the only way toward peace.

Dear "Never Again" Friends: This is not the way.

Thank you Susan, for saying it more succinctly than I did.
Hardly.
Yes!
Joan, there are very few Jews who disagree with you. He is not acting like the leader of a free state.
Glad to hear it.
Until yesterday I felt that this forum was a safe place for talking and trust building. Please keep it that way.
