I think that first discussion of "good for" is necessary.

Plato's Republic. *shudder*

I recall hearing him speak several years ago, not knowing him at all, and thinking I could possibly vote for him. I would love to see him in a Republican Presidential Candidate Nominee debate. He'd be the voice of truth, reason & integrity among (no doubt) a bunch of manipulating truth-benders who stomp on our democracy in favor of self-adulation.

I have been talking him up among my Republican relatives. Which is weird. I don’t know that I’d vote for him, but I’d listen to him. That’s as far as I can make it these days.

At the time, he must have been talking about an issue where the two parties should find common ground. I recall being surprised to find out he was a Republican. Imagine that? The two parties finding common ground and embracing it? That whole scenario seems to be an aversion for too many in the GOP at this time.

I hope your Republican relatives respond positively to your promotion of him!

I think they did. A few had heard of them. Not all of them are political junkies but I feel like they might want to know about this movement in their party, disgusted as they are about the whole of it.

I think we think too much about unifying the country when in reality we have to unify against a cult of tens of millions who are beyond hope, to save the country. Hopefully there are enough of us.

He’s not alone but I appreciate his unique position of trying to steer his party — and the rest of us — back to a workable democracy.
