Sometimes, I think I reside about as far left on the political spectrum as you can get without falling off, yet I have found myself stopping to admire the efforts of Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who started his political life as a member of the Tea Party.
I know! The Tea Party! But Rep. Kinzinger is one of two Republican members on the Jan. 6th House Select Committee, which is investigating our nation’s recent insurrection. He has shown himself willing to stand against the worst parts of his own political party. He also, through his year-old political action committee, recently endorsed candidates from both parties. The only requirement, according to Kinzinger, is that the candidates must be willing to “defend democracy.”
Kinzinger founded the PAC, Country First, last year. The website — which sounds really attractive at this point — calls the PAC a:
home for reasonable people of goodwill, seeking common ground to make our country better for future generations. All are welcome under the Country First banner, so let's do this together.
It almost feels impossible, talking about unifying, but it also feels so very important. Happy Monday.
I think that first discussion of "good for" is necessary.
Plato's Republic. *shudder*
I recall hearing him speak several years ago, not knowing him at all, and thinking I could possibly vote for him. I would love to see him in a Republican Presidential Candidate Nominee debate. He'd be the voice of truth, reason & integrity among (no doubt) a bunch of manipulating truth-benders who stomp on our democracy in favor of self-adulation.
