Algorithms are very bad at sarcasm. That's our secret weapon for telling the humans from the androids when the War of the Machines begins.

That's a great way to look at it. I will be the vanguard of the first skirmish.

I haven't gotten into Twitter much. Maybe I am not looking into it enough or am not following the right people. What do you like about it? Are you finding news/info there not easily seen elsewhere? What draws you to it?

It's a sewer, but news often breaks on Twitter and old newsroom habits die hard.

That makes sense. Where are you seeing it, mostly? What do you recommend following for news? Though I don't need minute to minute updates on every little thing.

Yes, news does break much sooner there.

I have spent more time on Twitter in the last couple of months. A writer that I follow, Jim Wright (@Stonekettle) was active on Facebook for a long time, but in the past year or so more and more of his posts were being blocked and he himself has been put in Facebook jail for a week at a time. He's pretty much abandoned FB except to post a link to his blog, where he writes a lengthy recap of the day's or week's events. And he still posts photography to FB. But mostly he's on Twitter now. I also follow Shannon Watts, who founded Moms Demand Action right after Sandy Hook; Well Regulated Militia, who posts news stories about all the "accidental" -- i.e., negligent -- gun injuries and deaths; Propane Jane, a Texan and a Black woman who posts incisive observations about the mental, physical, and sociological health of the nation; and many others, some just for fun. I find the format to be much more immediate than FB, in the sense of being able to carry on a conversation in near real time. And the limited character count forces me to take more care with my words and not ramble as I tend to do.

These are really great people to follow on Twitter.

Jim (@stoneketlle) is a great guy. He is a straight shooter who takes no BS from anyone.

That is true! Here's his blog, for those who may not know of him. https://www.stonekettle.com/

I consider this to be, in some ways, a badge of honor. You quote what other people have said, they suspend you. That tells me that their algorithms are fully out of control.

Keep up the good work.

Many in my circle consider it a badge of honor to get timed out on FB and Twitter.

Then I am lousy with merit badges. Thank you. Tell your circle I said hey.

I keep figuring that I'm being a slouch, never getting boo from Twitter and, on fb, having one post invisibled* on grounds I cannot conceive, years ago.

* It was announced to me. I'm not imagining phantom censorship or whatever it's called.

But I do love the word "invisibled." Let's share it until it's a real word.
