Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF) is the oldest and largest non-profit children's literacy organization in the United States. RIF provides books (print and digital) and reading resources to children nationwide with supporting literacy resources for educators, families, and community volunteers.
Ah yes, RIF. I watched yesterday's news where hundreds of home schoolers were protesting at the state capitol yesterday. The attack on public education is worrisome to say the least.
But— but— memoirs of now-old-fashioned Reaganite Republicans have told me that everyone knows that the GOP is the party of morality and economic responsibility.
So the CBO must be evil counter-revolutionary lying bastards.
Some of the flashier provisions are intended to draw attention - sparkly objects so we won't notice the bill would prevent judges from enforcing their orders and remove contempt penalties - among other things. If the Senate opposition from a few GOP members doesn't hold, this is a world of trouble.
Swalwell nailed it! Remember these elected officials have large staffs who likely are literate. Claiming ignorance is NO excuse! Even here in the land of steady habits CGA members are whining about the size of the budget bill and what is or is not included in the 700+ page bill. Both parties are guilty of larding up legislation with pet projects and without a strong, free and effective 4th estate we all fall victims to their stuffing themselves at the trough! Presently there are few safeguards as Project 2025 is fully coming to fruition! We must NEVER surrender!
Scary!! Thanks fornthis! But we do have an election in 2026. At least Trump and the Republicans put this right out there to see. What is scarier is, fesr my family or fellow citizens, who are kinda to busy to be aware. Or, care?
The already-vulnerable communities are taking it harder than I am and that makes zero sense to me. Government can’t be all things to all people but it should never be a boot on the neck.
So typical of MTG. And to actually ADMIT she didn’t read that part of the OBBB (must we have acronyms for everything?) that will affect so many of her constituents, won’t save her job next year. Perfect response from Rep. Swalwell, though.
Do you remember the movie Wall-E? That’s what I envision this country will be like if this bill passes in the Senate. God help us. ⚔️
Remember a time in history when bills were debated in Congress before a vote occurred? Zero excuse for members of Congress to not read bills - it’s the job.
MTG is a moron, I doubt she can read, let alone comprehend. Plus she’s not the only one.
How the MAGAs are trying to change the conversation on the BBB -- saying that the CBO is run by Democrats (so people will discount the analysis). The CBO is nonpartisan. The MAGAs say that BBB only eliminates fraud and waste. No, it doesn't it is a gut punch to Medicaid expansion -- which almost every state has implemented. The BBB imposes tougher work requirements (most states have them now), requires states to verify recipients every 6 months (instead of yearly) and says that states will have spend more money to enroll immigrants who do not have legal status. And, it shifts the financial burden of Medicaid expansion to the states. They now receive 90% reimbursement; it would be lowered to 80%. What does the felon-in-chief do to change the conversation --- he imposes a travel ban on several countries and goes after Harvard again. Swords Up.
I just wish that constituencies were more engaged and alarmed by the BBB, especially if they take away the subsidies for Obamacare. That will impact a lot of people who now can afford health care because of the subsidies. The felon in chief has wanted to kill Obamacare since his first term. He failed. Now, he is using a back door method to gut it. And it is complicated, so I believe that people think it won't impact them, but it will.
Who can be troubled by things like [checks notes] people dying from a lack of healthcare when the real culprit is Biden's autopen? I sometimes really envy people who believe in things like space lasers and cannibal pizza spots but not wealth inequality or creeping fascism. They seem so happy in their anger.
You have to wonder who is on MTG’s staff, the Stooges? Are they stupid, lazy, too scared to tell her anything she might not like? And now she’s saying she’s proud to have voted for the bill.

Right?
Well, that’s one (false) way to look at it. I think this particular iteration of the GOP makes null and void all such claims.
(I think that all iterations of all political parties void claims of being The Party of Morality, and most aren't much on economics, either.)
We agree.
Some of the flashier provisions are intended to draw attention - sparkly objects so we won't notice the bill would prevent judges from enforcing their orders and remove contempt penalties - among other things. If the Senate opposition from a few GOP members doesn't hold, this is a world of trouble.
It is. It’s a big ball of crud.

We were all privy to Project 2025 - the MAGA game plan was an open book for all to read. Sadly ignorance won and we will all pay the price.
The already-vulnerable communities are taking it harder than I am and that makes zero sense to me. Government can’t be all things to all people but it should never be a boot on the neck.
Project 2025 is out to thin the herd of the "vulnerable communities" in favor of the elites. This actually puts us all in peril.
Amen.

I read that she’s been bragging that she didn’t read the bill as if she’s proud of herself. Up is down.

She is t. She was just stupid enough to admit it.

There’s a quote in today’s Times from a Missouri rep. that says if he dies t like CBO’s numbers, he’s against the numbers. My God.

It really is a sneaky way to kill it -- and people.

Sometimes it’s a good to give the left side of your brain a rest and just say, “What a dumbass”.
I have to admit when I first saw the headline that she was “now proud”, I thought she was coming out and had a very brief glimmer of hope. Silly me.
