That "big, beautiful bill" is a throat punch to Obamacare (among other things)
Just ask the CBO
On Wednesday, the Congressional Budget Office, the nonpartisan organization created by Congress in the ‘70s, said the GOP’s Resolution bill would add $2.4 trillion (with a t) to the deficit over the next decade, and it would boot nearly 11 million people off health insurance.
(That amount of cash would buy you nearly 400 Boston Celtics basketball teams, or 150 million ‘16 Subaru Outbacks, just for some admittedly weird perspective.)
Would that the Republicans who voted for this had read it, or even scanned it before casting their vote, but no. Just look at Three-Toe’s reaction when she found out — gasp! — that not reading the bill will have Consequences.
Here’s the CBO report, and it’s grim. Obamacare (and the Medicaid expansion) protected 45 million people as of earlier this year. This bill is several giant steps back. This bill is catastrophic for people who rely on these services.
Even if you’re fortunate enough to have insurance after all these cuts, you will feel the effects of this short-sighted move with higher insurance premiums, and limited access to hospitals, for starters. We do not have a health care system. We have a health reaction where the best course of action is avoid illness or injury, and you’ll be fine.
So the fiscally conservative political party that insists we all pay attention to the budget would willing blow it up in favor of…taking away insurance from their constituents. Poof. Gone.
Do not ever let the Republican Party say it’s fiscally conservative or that it is the party of families.
And, as always, contact your senator — even if they seem to be a sure bet against this monstrosity — and let them know we are better than this — far, far better.
Reading Is Fundamental.
Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF) is the oldest and largest non-profit children's literacy organization in the United States. RIF provides books (print and digital) and reading resources to children nationwide with supporting literacy resources for educators, families, and community volunteers.
But— but— memoirs of now-old-fashioned Reaganite Republicans have told me that everyone knows that the GOP is the party of morality and economic responsibility.
So the CBO must be evil counter-revolutionary lying bastards.
Right?
