I remember his campaign visit to Hartford. He spoke in front of the Civic Center at the Pratt Street entrance. He embodies true Christian values and lives The Beatitudes…..Godspeed President Carter🙏

I was thinking that this morning. He is the epitome of godliness and oh, look. He's showing us the graceful way to exit.

Thanks for sharing that discussion. President Carter was my choice in 1976 as my first time voting. I liked his character. The flaws seen in his presidency, that he was not a strong politician, were often brought up. But he has shown us nothing but grace, all of his life. Go with God, Jimmy.

Robert Reich wrote:

"One-term presidents are always presumed failures because voters didn’t reelect them. But Carter lost his reelection bid (as would George H.W. Bush 12 years later) not because his presidency failed but because the Federal Reserve Board hiked interest rates so high as to bring on a recession. Recessions do not just choke off inflation; they also choke off presidencies."

This.

I lived in Canada from 1984-1992, and not only was also young enough to be fairly news-oblivious, but saw basically no television in that period. When I returned to the US I learned that it had been customary for people to make That Face and say casually, as if it were universally acknowledged, that of course the Carter presidency was a train wreck, or that he was a terribly president. I was startled that no argument was apparently needed, and couldn't figure out what they had in mind, really.

Since, I have come to an understanding that Leadership and Success are very largely matter of public permissions and elevations, and that Failure is often attributed to the one who acts, by those who have refused opportunity, cooperation, or appreciation.

Not only can an unclothed emperor be held Magnificently Garbed, but a competently clothed person can be castigated as naked.,

Thanks so much for this link. I was a teenager and I campaigned for Jimmy Carter, both elections. And then I went to Ronald Reagan's inauguration and protested. There were about four of us protesting, and the stale tale of Pres. Carter's deficiencies was already being spun.
