Thank you for bringing this moment to me. My tears are many and my shame enormous.
I’m doing all I can in my little blue dot in a red state, but it seem so infinitely small in comparison to such a huge loss. And not just Mr. Whitfield’s loss, but the loss millions feel who have experienced the bloodshed caused by a bullet.
You know what? You're stepping up. When you see it, say something. That's what we can do, no matter where we are. And I am hugging you from afar. We didn't just get here in our white supremacist state. We were all raised (or maybe I should speak for myself) in it. And now we must dismantle it. The system serves no one.
But it’s so little! We need EVERY white person who felt even the slightest twinge of sadness for these losses to STEP UP! Get involved and go even deeper in their involvement. Thank you Susan. Thank you for all you do.
Mr. Whitfield, the Sandy Hook families, Fred Gutenberg and thousands of others who've lost loved ones to gun massacres are still being mocked, ignored and shunned by the gQp/NRA/FOX party members! As McConaughey was leaving the podium yesterday a "reporter", James Rosen of Newsmax shouted out, "Were you just grandstanding now, sir?" How sickening? Oh and then you have Senator Red Johnson of Worstconsin in response to pending legislation saying, "let's enforce the laws we have starting with Hunter Biden"! NOW is the time to end the filibuster, ENOUGH!!!
Not that it appears to matter to many of the sumbitches (said in Jackie Gleason voice) in D.C., but if this impassioned speech, coupled with Matthew McConaughey's impassioned, sprinkled with a little drama, speech doesn't move anyone, then to to quote Mr. Whitfield, "yield your positions".
My heart and my sensibilities shake in the shadows of pain that these times cast. All I can offer for we who live and love on are the blessed words of Rev Howard Thurman:
“I share with you the agony of your grief, The anguish of your heart echo in my own. I know I cannot enter all you feel nor bear with you the burden of your pain; I can but offer what my love does give: The strength of caring, The warmth of one who seeks to understand The silent storm-swept barrenness of so great a loss, This do I in
quiet ways, That on your lonely path You may not walk alone.”
We're trying to understand and deal with and appeal to the better natures of people who don't have one. They don't know how to build, they only know how to tear down and destroy. The one thing they won't destroy is white supremacy. They will cling to it to their dying day because it's all they have.

Excuse me while I find another box of tissues.

Amen. I just wrote about this for CT News Junkie: https://ctnewsjunkie.com/2022/06/08/op-ed-white-supremacy-is-a-cancer-and-connecticut-has-it-too/

Those mockers? Can get bent from now until Judgment Day. I don’t have the words to address them.
Yup

Precisely. Step down.
It’s been said by many that harsh words can be like bullets. When will wise words be as powerful as well?
God, I hope so.
These are troubling times..very troubling.
