Retired Buffalo fire commissioner Garnell Whitfield Jr., whose mother, Ruth Whitfield, was shot and killed in the May 14 Tops supermarket massacre in Buffalo, appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday and drew a thick line between that mass shooting — where shoppers and others were targeted for their race — and white supremacy.
Watch the entire video, but this leapt out for me, from Mr. Whitfield:
Is there nothing that you personally are willing to do to stop the cancer of white supremacy and the domestic terrorism it inspires? Because if there is nothing, then...you should yield your positions.
Please, Jesus, let someone hear this man. It’s an excellent question: What are our elected officials going to do to stop this cancer?
Thank you for bringing this moment to me. My tears are many and my shame enormous.
I’m doing all I can in my little blue dot in a red state, but it seem so infinitely small in comparison to such a huge loss. And not just Mr. Whitfield’s loss, but the loss millions feel who have experienced the bloodshed caused by a bullet.
Excuse me while I find another box of tissues.
Mr. Whitfield, the Sandy Hook families, Fred Gutenberg and thousands of others who've lost loved ones to gun massacres are still being mocked, ignored and shunned by the gQp/NRA/FOX party members! As McConaughey was leaving the podium yesterday a "reporter", James Rosen of Newsmax shouted out, "Were you just grandstanding now, sir?" How sickening? Oh and then you have Senator Red Johnson of Worstconsin in response to pending legislation saying, "let's enforce the laws we have starting with Hunter Biden"! NOW is the time to end the filibuster, ENOUGH!!!
