Awww -- who can hate on the boys of Wham and Last Christmas? My unfaves are "Jingle Bell Rock" and "All I Want for Christmas is You" and I already heard those two dreadful songs and I don't listen to music stations. I got hit with them while shopping this past week.

Hard to avoid the Xmas ear noise since I was in a T-Mobile store BEFORE Halloween and Christmas music was playing. Even the guy who was waiting on me remarked how ludicrous it was for the stuff to be playing before Halloween!

Good luck on winning the game.

Well, I’m out! Not five minutes ago I heard it as an accompaniment to a cat video on Instagram. It was hilarious, actually, of cats wreaking havoc on Christmas trees with predictably disastrous results! It was titled, “My cat’s first Christmas.”

Dammit. Did that person who posted the video know what was at stake??!?!?

Turn your volume down to prevent accidentally hearing it.

Apparently not! You might want to avoid Insta for the foreseeable future! 🤣

Ha. I just axed my account a few days ago. Yay, me!

Jesus take the wheel! That song was my "ear worm" yesterday. I guess this is payback for switching from MSNBC to the holiday music channel?!? That being said I am NOT going back:))

Good for you. I was never a big fan of MSNBC (dunno why) and all the coverage of Whatzisname Joe going to visit the king and then whining that he did so out of a sense of journalistic principles reminds me I made the right choice.

Morning JOKE!

Good one.

I was never a fan of MSNBC. Same thing, no idea why. Never saw Joe's show, but I do know who he is. Very happy about that, too. He clearly was always going with the perceived popular opinion.....

The Christmas CD's are out and sorted. Any cover of Last Christmas is at the end of the pack. I think I managed to make it through the season last year without hearing it.

I can't remember which CD it is on.

Good for you!

Okay. I feel like being morbid in a way that amuses me— I recently heard fellow cruise passengers describing the need to touch their self-driving car’s steering wheel and promptly regaled us all with a counter factual of solar-powered cars without that live-check driving corpses around and around and around.

All the dead win Whamageddon.

Thta's an entire screenplay right there.

Yes, I thought how useful in some grim story.

Go for it.

Of course, all competitions are made up.

That said, this one’s amusing. Congratulations!!!

If you have Sirius XM, avoid Ch. 79 (Holly) and ch. 105 (Hallmark Holiday Radio), they are in heavy rotation on those channels.

Good advice. Thank you.

Expand full comment

You're welcome. It definitely is in heavy rotation on 79. I have been taking chances on my car radio but there is about a 2-3 second delay from the car display to playing the song. I see it in the display and push a different preset. You're only out if you hear it.

There is a possibility that someone has already posted this little tidbit. Did you know that Taylor Swift recorded that song on her Christmas album in 2007? OMG. Was she trying to throw some funding WHAM way? It was as bad as the original.

I haven’t heard the Wham Christmas song. So far I am still in the running. And I sit with Sherry having All I Want For Christmas is You as an immediate channel changer. Yech

I deal with Christmas ear worms by listening to some of my favorite Christmas Q-tips (Ok, I know, I know, nothing smaller than your elbow but you know what I mean).

May I suggest trying one of my favorite Christmas novelty songs, “We Want to See Santa Do the Mambo” sung by Big John Greer.

Followed with a little “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus” sung by Mabel Scott.

Washed down with the aural equivalent of fine wine of Charles Browm singing “Merry Christmas Baby”,

Awesome!

... how will I know it when I hear it?

Expand full comment

Well, it's Wham! and the words start, "Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, the very next day..."

Whiny voice.

Expand full comment

Wow. I bet I've heard it if everyone else has but I surely do not know it.

Expand full comment

It's not a particularly memorable song, but it IS pervasive.

Expand full comment

Yes, pervasive! Alas, I've already been subjected to it...

Expand full comment

Oh, so that's the one!

Haven't heard it yet! Have a great weekend.

You, too!

Fade, and raise you the original Bing Crosby, excruciatingly off-pitch, version of the Bells of St. Mary's.
