So far, I have yet to hear “Last Christmas,” the treacly holiday song by Wham! — which means I have a shot at surviving this season’s Whamageddon.
And you can, too. If we can get through the entire season without hearing the tune (and I have yet to make it all the way since I started playing Whamageddon a few years ago), then…we get eternal life in heaven? I am unclear as to the reward, other than bragging rights.
But that’s cool. I like to brag. If I can make it to Dec. 24 and avoid getting Whammed (and thus sent to Whamhalla), I get to brag. And at this point, I’ll take all the victories I can get, even the made-up ones.
The contest started on Dec. 1 so if you heard the song in November, you’re still in the running. Also, covers by other artists are allowed, according to the rules of this decades-old game created by some Danish friends who realized they weren’t able to move freely through the holidays without hearing “Last Christmas,” which of course I will not link here because I’m going for gold.
Good luck to everyone still in the running.
Awww -- who can hate on the boys of Wham and Last Christmas? My unfaves are "Jingle Bell Rock" and "All I Want for Christmas is You" and I already heard those two dreadful songs and I don't listen to music stations. I got hit with them while shopping this past week.
Hard to avoid the Xmas ear noise since I was in a T-Mobile store BEFORE Halloween and Christmas music was playing. Even the guy who was waiting on me remarked how ludicrous it was for the stuff to be playing before Halloween!
Good luck on winning the game.
Well, I’m out! Not five minutes ago I heard it as an accompaniment to a cat video on Instagram. It was hilarious, actually, of cats wreaking havoc on Christmas trees with predictably disastrous results! It was titled, “My cat’s first Christmas.”
