The brazenness of refusing to tax the rich while forcing the poor to suffer is reprehensible. I fear HR 1 will only get worse as Republicans rush to meet this completely manufactured deadline. I have no stomach for fireworks this year. It would be too much to celebrate "independence" in the face of "Alligator Alcatraz" and ICE's new cash infusion.

Trump says “Jump,” and the GOP says, “How high.” They’re craven. Are they ignoring the polls?

They have to be ignoring the polls. Their big corporate donors have put blinders on them.

"There’s less support for Medicaid work requirements than MAGAts would like to believe.

The bill’s Medicaid cuts are the biggest in history, and that will be a tough sell in places such as Speaker Mike Johnson’s Louisiana."

This is our only hope. That these GOP house members know that they will be out on their ass if they try the tough sell to constituents. The Senate passed it on knowing this.... they are dead ducks if the House doesn't pass it, btw.

I think they're dead ducks regardless. IF the House doesn't pass the bill, Trump will come after them (and to that? I'd say "Big whup" but they seem to be inordinately frightened of the diapered felon who rapes). if the House DOES pass the bill with its basic awful components in place, they're dead ducks because their constituents will feel the pain.

Yes, they are dead ducks no matter what, but which is worse, getting voted out of office or ..... whatever Trump has on them. Each will have to decide. Susan Collins has a 26% approval rating among Republicans - she's a goner. Will they pick someone better - dem or gop?

Last week I called a list of Senators in my state to thank and a number in other states to chide or thank. Lindsay Graham for one got an earful of guilt referencing the late great Senator John McCain his longtime friend and stabilizing force.

Today same plan with focus on Representatives - those in CT who voted nay (shame) and yay.

My coffee pot is ready.

Swaggart goes toes up on the day the MAGA bill passes the Senate, could this be a sign? Seriously, we must never forget McConnell's role in turning our country into a police state. Stalin's reincarnated ID was in his home state yesterday touring the new gulag that will cost 1/2 a billion a year to run! While there he called Biden a "son of a bitch" and praised Mayor Adams who he pardoned. We need a massive national strike as the clock is ticking on the march into full totalitarianism!!

There's talk of one on July 7 but I am not finding much more than that. Any one?

Depressing. I emailed my reps— but they are all Dems and no votes. Now, the felon is framing the measure as the working families tax cut legislation— which Politico reported got positive responses in swing states polling. The poll was conducted by a flunky — golfing buddy of the felon in chief. Just shows how out of touch voters are and questions framed a certain way give positive results. As a side note, boycott CBS— agreeing to a $16 million settlement AND release of future written transcripts of 60 minute interviews with presidential candidates. My head is exploding today.

I have seen a few posts by union members praising the bill because they will not have their OT taxed. That mindset scares the living shit out of me!

I think this is what happens when we are so divided and vitriolic towards one another. Our care about one another has been replaced by an "as long as I've got mine" mindset. Really stinks.

As for framing questions, I worked long enough in marketing research to learn that you can write a questionnaire (or ask a question) designed to get the results you want.

I contacted my representative first thing this morning. It's insane that the GOP is willing to serve a leader over serving the people. They should remember former President Lincoln's words, “that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth” .
