And there’s dissension in the ranks. There are all kinds of reasons to hate this bill, and Republicans in the House know this.
Ultra-conservative GOPs don’t like the ballooning deficit the bill delivers.
People with souls don’t love giving ICE more money, since they prefer creating more legal pathways to citizenship.
There’s less support for Medicaid work requirements than MAGAts would like to believe.
The bill’s Medicaid cuts are the biggest in history, and that will be a tough sell in places such as Speaker Mike Johnson’s Louisiana.
The surge in the ranks of the uninsured will also be a tough sell, pretty much anywhere.
Same with SNAP cuts.
The current bill doesn’t resemble the House bill passed in May by a one-vote margin, thus, it’s a Frankenstein.
Call your representative. Call all your representatives. They take up the bill today.
And remember: This is no longer called the One Big Beautiful Bill, because that title violates Section 313 B1A of the Congressional Budget Act of 1974, also known as Byrd Rule. But we can keep calling it the big ugly bill.
The brazenness of refusing to tax the rich while forcing the poor to suffer is reprehensible. I fear HR 1 will only get worse as Republicans rush to meet this completely manufactured deadline. I have no stomach for fireworks this year. It would be too much to celebrate "independence" in the face of "Alligator Alcatraz" and ICE's new cash infusion.

This is our only hope. That these GOP house members know that they will be out on their ass if they try the tough sell to constituents. The Senate passed it on knowing this.... they are dead ducks if the House doesn't pass it, btw.
