On hearing about Yarl being shot, a friend who is a strong black man with a kind, tender heart said “People that look like me cannot afford to knock on all doors. So since I don’t know which doors to knock on, I just don’t knock at all.... It’s why we keep the walls up.” A peaceful, godly person he also said a few months ago that just seeing a police car come up behind his car makes him nervous thinking he could easily become another news story should he be pulled over for a “routine” traffic stop. Systemic racism is making us Americans sick!
And my God, since when did “Shoot first and ask questions later” become the near motto of too many people in our country? On the Sat. prior to Yarl’s being shot when he went to the wrong address, 20 year old Kaylin Gillis was shot & killed in updtate NY. She and her friends had pulled into the wrong driveway looking for a friend’s house. They reportedly were already leaving when the homeowner came out and shot at their car. This armed insanity has to stop!
I've noticed a rise in republican reported "scary" local events in online community groups that may or may not be exactly true. That or they imply something untrue or they share a partial story. The end result is some people in the community feel less safe. My theory is, there is a link between some of quick to shoot events and the republican political messaging that convinces people they are at risk so you better get your guns. That combined with racism, easy access to guns, and the fact that stand your ground laws exist anywhere is a bad mix.
What happened to Ralph Yari is so horrible. He was just a boy to pick up his little brothers. I'm glad he survived, but he will be forever effected. The shooter better get the maximum sentence.
Done !
“ Thou shalt not be a bystander ! ”
I shall ask my brother to contact the youngster.

I love you, Deacon.
You and who you are is important to this community, thank you… and I love you as well my friend.
The state of “Misery” shows its ugly side once again. Thank God this young man survived.
I am ashamed.
My God, America. What have we become?
This. We have become this, so frightened and filled with hate we allow an old man a gun he has no business owning.
The same one we’ve always been, I’m afraid. We just have cell phones and news flashes that now can capture and document who we’ve always been.

It's our original sin. I am ashamed of my state -- this particular resident, the culture that allows it, the laws that codify it.

And my God upstate New York, too! This 20 year old woman was shot and killed for accidentally driving into the wrong driveway. https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/18/us/woman-shot-wrong-driveway-upstate-new-york/index.html
The Republican response your years has been: more guns. This is what happens when violent, paranoid idiots have guns.
This is just so sad. Someone on Twitter who is friends with this young woman's uncle shared the details of this. It's heartbreaking.
Unfortunately, the Yarl incident isn't unique right now. https://www.timesunion.com/news/article/washington-county-20-year-old-killed-saturday-17901499.php?IPID=Times-Union-HP-spotlight
Just so awful.
