Acknowledging the Holocaust is like acknowledging the sun in the morning. It’s not exactly an act of courage. I don’t buy Taylor Greene’s “sincerity” for a second. She’s already done something similar regarding Qanon theories. In fact I believe her speech was planned before she went to the museum. I can hear Kevin McCarthy; “Here’s what you do. You go to the museum. After, you acknowledge the Holocaust and sound contrite. The caucus accepts your apology and asks your committee assignments be reinstated. What are they going to do? Continue to punish you for acknowledging the Holocaust?” A censure resolution against her is supposed to be introduced tomorrow. I don’t think this was a coincidence.
Not to give Wallace and Northam too much credit but they both built political careers that led them to governorships before their turnarounds. Despite her popularity amongst the insurrectionists and her fund raising abilities, she or the people around her know that her comments and behavior had dug a hole for her political future on a hill in Jerkwater, Georgia. This is just a step back from the edge.
I'm afraid I'm with you. She knew all along. She visited Auschwitz as a teenager, for cryin' out loud. I wish her colleagues would take her threat as serious, and censure her every time she opens her fly hole.
I'll say it all day long-- repentance is the Best, and its current lack of popularity must, I think, be intertwined with our temporal shortsightedness.
Just have to say thanks for the Drive-by Truckers reference. So much of their music perfectly captures the experience of growing up in a small southern town. My favorite of theirs is on this same album--"Zip City." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2T7CnRQBbg&t=41s
I am always skeptical of sudden come to Jesus moments and tend to be a long term watcher of what happens who no one is watching. I learned a new word as I read this...fuckwittery. Thank you for the birthday present of another way to express myself.
I haven't read any primary sources yet, but I understand that Marjorie Taylor Greene had a come-to-Jesus moment, so to speak, after she visited the Holocaust Museum. So maybe not all Republicans are impervious to truth. (Ted Cruz still is. Rand Paul still is. Mitch McConnell most certainly is, and will be to his dying day.)
I do admire those who admit to being wrong and then take meaningful action to repair the damage they helped create. I didn't know Wallace had a turn around.
There's quite a bit of scholarship as to how far around he actually turned, but he definitely had at least a bit of an epiphany. Considering how far he had to go, that's something.

I’m surprised she didn’t ask where the space laser was.

So hard shells like myself need to allow room for that — for others AND myself, I guess.

Oh, awesome. Thank you.

That sounds like a smart policy. Watch. And wait. And happy birthday!
Thank you.

She sounded contrite, and then she tore in to a colleague. So Sis. Marj has a way to go.
Says me, sitting in the judgment seat.
