Fine Trump for violating gag orders, and keep upping the fine until he feels it
Already in his tour of America’s courtrooms, the Defendant-In-Chief has had to pay fines for violating various gag orders, including $5,000 in October when he failed to take down a snotty social media post about a law clerk in his New York fraud case.
Just a few days later, the DIC was fined another $10,000 by the same judge because the DIC Has Feelings And Needs to Share.
Prosecutors in his most recent New York criminal trial say he’s yet again violated the gag order they requested for this case — and more than once.
He certainly has, according to Newsweek, been testing the limits of his gag orders. Among other blatantly stupid acts, DIC has taken to social media and posted false information about the daughter of the judge overseeing his current criminal trial, the one that is delving into his paying hush money to a porn actress to keep her quiet in the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election. At that trial, he’s facing 34 counts of falsifying business records.
And that’s not the half of it. I’m not an attorney, but here’s a recent social media post that blows right through any notion of a gag order:
When Trump’s buddy Roger Stone kept defying a gag order, he was barred from social media for what the judge called Stone’s “middle-school” behavior. Stone, who lied to Congress about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, was convicted, but Trump pardoned him, along with Trump’s former campaign chair, Connecticut’s own Paul Manafort, as well as Charles Kushner, the father of Trump’s son-in-law.
There will be no bloated Orange Knight standing ready to rescue the DIC.
I believe the Defendant-In-Chief is incapable of not talking about his court cases, and for that, I say fine him and keep upping the fine until he feels it. And if that doesn’t work, toss him in jail. That’s what would happen to the rest of us if we behaved with such disregard for the courts. Welcome to the rule of law, Don.
As someone who's entire career has been in the legal field, I'm pissed that he's getting away with this. While I understand there would be a shitshow if he was jailed, I'm tired of the DIC (I think the "D" needs to be changed to "DICK") not being held accountable for his mouth. Fines are just not cutting it anymore. I find his courtroom behavior horrifying.
I won’t be around to see how history will define the Trump era but it will make the Teapot Dome Scandal and Watergate burglary look like parking infractions. When I see Stone and Manafort mentioned I would love to know what their former partner, Hartford’s own, Peter Kelly thinks?!?
