It will go particularly badly for us if a Republican gets back into office in these inflamed times. An elected Republican -- or most of them, anyway -- is likely to take a blow torch to the few guard rails we have remaining.

I don’t know if it will mean more buildings collapsing but I suspect this is just the beginning. For years Miami Beach streets have flooded intermittently when high (“king”) tides have backed up storm drains and it’s just going to get worse. At some point (maybe we’re there) no amount of infrastructure investment is going to make a difference.

There’s been talk anticipating climate refugees for some time now. I don’t think most people had Floridians in mind.
