With apologies to St. Joan of Osborne: If you saw God face-to-face — and I accept there is a significant number of people here who don’t think that’s at all a possibility — and you had just one question, what would you ask Her?
Back when this song came out (1995), I thought the world was my oyster, that I would never grow old, and that all my friends would live forever. I have since been disabused of those notions, and if I only had one question, I’d ask for three more. How about you?
I was thinking about that yesterday, how full of life the world seemed a decade or two or three ago. My question: Are you listening and why can't I hear you? (Ok that's 2 questions)
Joan Osborne had a huge influence on the first meeting with my husband. When I got to his house, Joan Osborne's "Righteous Love" album was playing, and he was impressed when I was able to identify it as it didn't do anywhere near as well as "Relish". Our wedding song was her cover of "How Sweet It Is". This was a lovely way to start my morning. That all being said, what would I ask of her? It would be a beyond broad question and one I ask myself ad nauseum. WTF??? What in the ever-living f*ck? I don't she'd mind the "F" bombs.
I think I'd be asking whether we really are running the world from the human angle as a pathological tournament of power politics feebly justified by fables of merit.
I suspect that I shouldn't doubt this, but the gaslighting is pretty incessant.

(You’re allowed.)
What if God was ALL of us?
"Did you really give us free will, or are all our choices in life predestined and we just have the illusion of free will?"
Whoa. Excellent question!

Oh! I’m so glad this started your day right. And I’m going to have to believe She drops her share of f-bombs.
P.S. Not only could I identify the album, but I owned a copy of it. It now shares space with the 3K+ CD's in our collection.
Can you turn yourself into a talking turtle and tell the humans to get over themselves?
I can try...at least I can do the second part.
Oh, wait. You're talking to God. Nevermind.
I’ve always considered that “made in God’s image” thing a human conceit. If God was a talking turtle we all might discover the humility we’re missing.
Plus, it’d be cool.
I would ask her to guide me on the path to joy. True, unabashed joy. Then I could show others how to get there.
What a beautiful ask.

Indeed. Another great question.
