My ardent prayer is that every athlete, every entertainer, every corporate gathering, refuse to attend schools, offer concerts and convene meetings or games, in Florida.
We should all be absolutely refusing to financially support Florida. We all talk about preserving democracy and standing as allies for those who are oppressed and attacked. That's nice. However, unless we are willing to refuse to vacation there, refuse to buy any product or service sold there or originating there, refuse to book cruises that use Florida's ports, refuse to buy or rent time at "snowbird" lodgings, refuse to support their sports teams, then it's just talk - nothing more. Talk is cheap: walk the walk or admit you're not an ally - you're part of the problem.
My hope is that it certainly does do harm to states such as these, that it does take on the energy of a boycott. Florida is one of several states in which I refuse to spend a penny, despite the fact that I have family and friends who still live there and may never see again if they don't travel beyond Florida's borders.
My grandparents, mother & her 6 siblings lived in FL. I have wonderful memories of many summer days spent there. There are wonderful, enlightened people who live there. But unfortunately they are outvoted by too many whose minds are still stuck in Civil War days ways of thinking. Just yesterday I told a friend that I would highly discourage her buying some property that I’m selling in northern FL because too many people in that area consider black people inferior and some of the males would not respect her as a business owner because of her gender. Sad state of affairs in the year 2023!
It’s not safe for me to be there. I wish I could post here pictures of my former neighborhood. To say that the flags, banners, and yard signs for Dump and DeSatan was in overkill mode is saying the least. I also experienced road rage one block from my former home because I neglected to remove my Bernie sticker, a tiny little thing outraged a guy in a black pickup so much that he ran me to the side of the road, stop on my driver side and through a frickin’ Big Gulp at me. For all my outraged friends in Florida? Crickets?
I feel the same way every time an idiot in Missouri chirps up. I remain in constant shame over Josh Hawley and -- frequently -- the gutless wonder of a governor.
Since my father's death in 1995, I've been to Florida twice. One was a weekend trip to Destin (I'd go again.), and the other was my high school (was there for all but the send half of junior and all of senior years) reunion. Depending on the status of things in Florida, I may/may not be attending my 50th. I'd like to see Key West (weird that I haven't seeing that we lived there for 5 years), but if I don't, oh well...
We have a trip planned shortly, with the grandkids. We will discuss this, and I have to say, I’m tired of these moral dilemmas. It isn’t that difficult to not-be Florida. It’s like the governor dreams this rank stuff up at night.

It’ll definitely take some popular folks to bring awareness to this; seems they don’t listen to regular folks.

My God. I'm so sorry that happened to you.
Yeah, thanks. May I send you the picture i referenced?
Please do.
How about a new bumper sticker?
“Florida. Welcome to the Body Snatcher state”.
See if the cultists’ little brains figure that out.
Horrifying and shameful. I live in Cenral Florida and feel beyond terrible about this.

Yes because most of these yahoos are sending their kids to private school while they wreck havoc in public schools.
Humph

I can’t really “like” this but thank you.
