I have been saying this for what feels like forever! Citizens United certainly made things worse. Even before that, the lobbyists were evil. The money that controls our country doesn’t make this a democracy in any way, shape or form.

Not to mention the time and money campaigning! Imagine all the good that money could do!

If I were in charge, there’d be a campaign of three months and the candidates would get equal air time on the National channels.

Oh, absolutely. Shrink this forever campaign season. Other countries do so.

As long as the six so-called ‘justices’ sit on the bench, Citizens United will remain settled law. We can only hope that Alito and Thomas die soon and/or any combination of the younger ones come down with some dread disease. I’ve never had such thoughts before (well, mostly before 2015) but with each 🍊felon-biased decision, I pray for their demise in some form or another.

And I’ll probably go to hell for it. ⚔️

I’ll save you a seat. This system has been played (lifelong appointment? really?) and we need a new one.

Ah, the rich and rotten fruits of “Let *them* pay for it, not us as a citizenry!”

Thanks again Susan. One of your many talents is a clear understandable answer.

I had a very bare bones understanding of the history and function of our laws funding candidates. I so appreciate this clear explanation. The basics of anatomy and physiology I get. This subject matter was murky.

Now I know how to plan my work for more change.

Campaign financing should be funded by the government, with spending limitations on each category of office. The Billions being spent on elections is outrageous. The numerous PACs filling candidates war chest without accountability are obviously influencing election results and policy implementation, to the detriment of the public interest. Corruption is rampant and becoming more blatant. They used to attempt to conceal their crooked governance, but these days they flaunt it in our face, like a giant middle finger directed at the people they are supposed to represent.

EXACTly. This was always where our campaigns were going to end up so now? This has to change.

As readers here know none of this is surprising. Many of us reviewed and provided commentary on Project 2025 that clearly spelled out how they were going to dismantle the bureaucracy. It is all coming full circle now where you can watch it unfold live on C-Span if you have a strong stomach!?! The train has left the station and only we the people can see to it that it is not a one-way trip!

It’s all about greed and power and no one seems to care about how they represent the people that elected them! Never thought it would be this bad! Was an optimist but that is getting harder every day!
