Jan. 20th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and here are some ideas for where to volunteer if you’re in Connecticut. However, if you’re already involved in a non-profit and they need volunteers for the day or week, please let us know in the comments.
Yes, the antithesis of Rev. Dr. King will be inaugurated at noon in D.C. but I will not be watching. I won’t be on social media, and won’t turn on a television set or the radio. I am also not going to curl up in a ball in my house. Let’s dedicate ourselves, wherever we are, to action.
I think, as well, I’ll take a walk on the beach. I will enjoy doing a good deed and I will enjoy a media blackout to gather my thoughts and sharpen my sword.
Above is Themis, goddess of justice, law, divine order, and custom. Usually, the scales she’s holding are the focus of the statues that portray her, but she is also holding a sword. Do not forget that. We are not powerless.
How about you? What do you plan for Jan. 20?
Maybe folks could give blood that day. And, I would love to find a pin, or button, or brooch of Themis, to wear every single day from now on. I shall begin the search.
Now that we are in our SC townhouse where we came to avoid winter, there is NO avoidance, and the beautiful Huntington State Park is only 7 miles away we will walk there. The sound of waves crashing on the beach, the variety of water foul, and the serenity will occupy our time.
