I’ll write more about this later, but the U.S. Senate was for the PACT Act before they were against it, and then they were for it again — except for egregious people like Missouri’s Lanky Fascist, Josh Hawley — and why the switch?
They were pressured — hard — by an army of voters led by the likes of Jon Stewart, who has made the health and safety of veterans his special purpose. While watching the back-and-forth between Stewart and, well, Ted Cruz, people put their money, votes and effort behind Stewart, whom they trusted.
In addition, reliably-red Kansas took the confusing text of the anti-choice Value Them Both amendment, ignored some dirty political tricks, and voted to give pregnant people a say in their own futures.
Why? An army of activists and good-hearted voters took this referendum seriously, and they got out and voted.
What’s the message here? Oh my God, vote. Connecticut has a primary coming up. Let Jon Stewart and the good people of Kansas be your guides.
I have a tender spot for Jon Stewart. Always have. I would like to see our society widen our understanding of "the vote." It is (and can be) much more than ballots cast in the middle school gym every two years. It is (and can be) the ways we treat our sisters and brothers, the goods and services we spend our money on, the way we live in harmony/discordance with the earth's natural systems. Truth is we all vote many times every day.
We are at a moment where voting matters MORE than EVER! Swords up!!
