That Peter Hegseth lies during a press conference is not news.
But at several points in the above video from a press conference on Thursday, Sec. of Defense Peter Hegseth (with Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine) appears to break down, and not just around the edges. Listen to his try to backtrack about his “boys in bombers” comment at about the 46:16 mark. Sec. Hegseth, I care when you say “boys in bombers” because that doesn’t include the women who are there. How is that not clear to you?
Oh, never mind.
The fact that he, a Fox News alum, used quite a lot of time to chastise the press for creating fake news carries enough irony to choke a goat.
I’ve got this one, Rep. Swalwell. Did Hegseth cry? Or show up drunk? God knows.
But to that last question? No. He is not stable enough, some wag said on Bluesky, to order a McFlurry.
When I was a child, my mother told me that the British press would say that some public figure appeared “tired and emotional,” meaning drunk.
ETA after going to "the boys in bombers": Actually, I think he's just learned the very publicly apparent lesson that though when women display anger or intensity that nullifies anything they say*, when men are angry or on the brink of tears That Shows Their Seriousness and Intensity and You Should Pay Attention (or they'll get way scary).
* When women appear cool that of course displays their lack of passion, which is also disqualifying.
He’s unstable, just like his boss. He should not be in this position of power.
