Well damn. I’m working late tomorrow, & out of town on the 14th. Wally is one of my all-time favorite human beings. He knows why. So sorry to miss what will undoubtedly be a lively conversation with two of my favorite writers (yes of course you’re the other one). Will your local community cable access folks record it?
I’m sorry I can’t make any of them but I adore your writing and know your speaking must be every bit as enjoyable! Swords up against book bans and yes, you are adorable, then and now.
My sister has one of those photos, but in hers, she's on a pony. Unfortunately, I do not have access to this photo. The Real Art ways thing is a possibility, Ivoryton is a "no go" on a school night. Would love to attend next weekend's event, however, we will be entertaining the bro-in-law who's visiting from Tokyo (here now) and the sis-in-law from San Fran. This all on the heels of my surprise 4-day trip to Atlanta the weekend before. It's fun having the bro-in-law here. First thing I did with him was make sure he ate pizza.
A Universalist is out fishing when his boat is attacked by the Loch Ness monster, capsizing the boat and throwing him into the water. As the monster bears down on him, mouth open preparing to eat him, he yells out “God, help me!”. Suddenly a voice thunders from the sky. “I thought you didn’t believe in a God you could call on in times of crisis”. The fisherman responds, “yeah, well a few seconds ago I didn’t believe in the Loch Ness monster either.” Ba dum tsssss! Credit to a self-effacing UU friend from the past.
I don’t know Wally personally but I’ve heard him speak a few times. That will be fun. For a while it was a point of neighborhood pride that he rented an apartment a couple of blocks away where he did his writing. He also used some aspects of our town in creating his fictionalized locations, along with other towns nearby. Reading his books has always been a particularly personal experience. Paraphrasing now, I love his comparative analysis. Western Connecticut, it’s pate. Eastern Connecticut, it’s liverwurst.
All these events sound more like conversations than lectures so I wouldn’t worry. You talk good.
Whoops, I just realized my mistake. I need to read more closely, I confused churches. I apologize to all concerned. I was going to delete the whole thing but I’ll own it instead. UCCers are cool.
Well, okay then! Will there be tea sandwich carts with tea? Or beer and fried chicken, biscuits, potato salad (at two kinds), and hand-churned ice cream? Jk!
$5,000 ????
You’re like the Taylor Swift of journalism
Will you be encouraging your audience to register to vote????
Always.
Ha! Sorry I can't make it, but happy to know you are out there preaching it.
And Yes, you were.

Oh, I'm on a panel. Wally is a featured speaker, just to be clear. I adore him, too.
And I'm not sure if it will be recorded.
Great question
I would give a lot to be able to go! Grateful you're carrying the flag...and wielding your sword. Thank you!
Hi ho

Go Susan! I wish I could attend one of your banned book week events, but neither day works out for me. They sound great! I'll be there in spirit!
Yay! And thank you.
That photo is the cutest! It always gets my attention!
I look deceptively angelic there.

It sounds like you have an interesting life going. You are excused.
Somewhere there’s a picture of me on a pony wearing a Mickey Mouse Club t-shirt.
You must find it and post it here.
Second that.
All I got is ‘Amen’ sister friend😎
A little something to warm up the UCC crowd.

I only know Episcopal (from seminary) and church of Christ (my people) jokes. So I'll add these to my quiver.
Some of us in the UCC joke that if we were any more liberal theologically we'd be UU - so it stands for "Unitarians Considering Christ."
Those sound great.
Since you're doing a WWJD? event-- have you read Charles Sheldon's In His Steps? I did, for a social gospel class in seminary. Very of-its-period.
I have read it. My favorite book about Jesus is "Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time," by Borg.
That certainly beats Sheldon. :D
But I have a bit of a kink for that period's literature.
Whaaaaat? Damn first event deemed too far, and besides, I'm zoned out after 7, sigh.
Second and third deemed doable.
However, 5000 bucks? Susan.....
I ONLY NEED TO SELL ONE TICKET.
(I am not a business major.)

I know the church is having light snacks. Everything else is BYOB. I'm kidding. I have no idea.
I was not serious, lol! I was kinda' heckling esrly.!
I'll take it!
Susan, you had me at your adorable cowgirl picture!!
Thank you. I was cute as hell.
Oh dang! I’m not around otherwise I’d be happy to come and heckle! Here’s hoping that you’ll be speaking other places soon!
Your heckling will be missed.
Thank you!
