It was a bit of Insurrection Groundhog Day when supporters of election loser Jair Bolsonaro stormed capital buildings — Congress, the Supreme Court, and the Presidential Palace — in Brasília.
Have we seen this before?
In fact, we have! This makes the argument that the Brazilians learned from the Trump-inspired botched Jan. 6th attempt to overthrow the U.S. government. And this says the Trump insurrection was a blueprint for Brazil’s attempt.
The similarities include (but are not limited to):
The same U.S. instigators, including that reprobate Steve Bannon, were involved in both attempts.
Social media leading up to the attacks was irresponsible and worse. In fact, Elon Musk fired Brazil’s election misinformation moderation team soon after he took over Twitter.
Along the same sad lines, mass delusions about ignorant conspiracy theories helped fuel both attacks.
Both attempts were committed by people who were deeply adolescent. People shat in both country’s official buildings.
Both losers now live in Florida (though that could and should change).
Insurrectionists in both countries evidently shopped at the same insurrection regalia store.
And how were the two attempts different? Brazil began rounding up their insurrectionists immediately, and public condemnation was swift and unwavering.
The hope, of course, is that both countries emerge stronger for having confronted the fascism from within. At least, there’s hope for Brazil. For us? Maybe not just yet.
I watched snippets of the 118th debate “rules” changes proposed by Speaker McTrump and his Insurrectionist Party. Progress is no more as democracy is waning. Why is Bolsonaro here, in Red Florida no less?!?
This is so discouraging. Bolsonaro must have conferred with that traitor at Mar A Largo.
