Love your story about the grandkids. My sister's grandchildren have been our saving grace in troubled times. The first one was a COVID baby. One of her aunts got her a onesie that said "They didn't stay 6 feet apart." I hope that one will go in the "keepers" pile for posterity. And now her little sister delights us all as she tries out new sounds and chews on her toes. Thank God for the generations. So it is for all these amazing kids that we are out there on the protest lines, writing postcards, writing and calling our legislators, etc. etc. So important.

Happy Birthday to your Grand twins. Since they’re 14 I went to the slang dictionary for a non elder sounding word for a compliment. Your stories about your grands are slay. No they’re rad. How about lit? Really an awesome column. But from one granny to another calling you a cool granny just doesn’t cut it today. Granny Susan you’ve got riz !!

I am laughing. They get a kick out of it when I actually know some of the slang. I remind them I work at a college and I Hear Stuff.

Good that you Hear Stuff. My 2 grand just teen girls are out of state. So visits aren’t as often as I would like. I went to the internet and printed out 12 pages of Stuff and studied for my last visit.

I so enjoy my granddaughters. I had all boys, and grew up with 3 sisters.... so, now I get to relive my childhood through them. And they are a blast! I attempt to expand their world - beyond just geography, but through arts, literature and experiences. Aren't we lucky!!!

Happy birthday and many happy returns of the day to both of them!

And you sound like a swell Golden Grandmother of your own sort, which is the only sort one can manage.

Ha. I’m not quite gold standard, but I work at it.

I’m not convinced that anyone but your grands can really judge that, though.

Grandmothers are the best. I loved both of mine who were different as night and day. Until I was ten I lived next door to my fraternal grandmother and I was the only child of her only child so to say that she spoiled me is not saying enough. I never smell flowery perfume or hear the ruffle of taffeta without thinking of her. I’m smiling as I write this just thinking of her.

Your grands will do the same many years from now.

Spoiled but no taffeta. My granddaughter once told me I smell like lemons (prob my cuticle cream).
