Just out of college in 1974 and working nights as a bartender I had the time to watch the Watergate hearings where Congressman Peter Rodino exhibited calm, non partisan leadership in navigating through the troubled waters churned up by Nixon and his plumbers! Fast forward to last night where that same type of leadership prevailed with Thompson and Cheney as they presented the facts of the Trump organized and led coup attempt! May their work continue and may those responsible, especially Trump, see that justice does in fact apply to them!
I think it ultimately comes down to the DOJ. No matter what, they will be accused of acting politically so they need get over that. They need to act soon, ideally before the mid-terms to shield the results of the committee from a probable republican congress. The tantrums and vitriol will be off the charts but it will be out of the cultists hands.
For 18 months I've been avoiding watching most of the video from January 6th, and I wasn't really planning to watch last night. But I tuned in and was immediately hooked by Rep Thompson and then Cheney. I don't want to like her, but damn. “There will come a day when President Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain.” Put that on Mitch McConnell's tombstone. And every other summbitch senator and representative who voted against impeachment. The first time AND the second time.
I was 14 when the Watergate hearings were on and remember watching them with my mother. I didn’t become a journalist but was a political junkie all my life. Those hearings were moving but nothing like these ones. I continue to pray for Justice and decency.
I did cry when faced with the trauma the capital police woman endured. Deeply moved by her getting up and continuing to fight the mob off after being hurt. And so angry to learn how undeserving some members still serving in Congress were of her valor.
I am holding onto hope that what all the king’s men could not do for Humpty Dumpty will be done by intelligent Americans to put our democracy that was badly cracked on Jan. 6th back together again.
In my darker moments I believe we are lost as a nation. There are too many who will ignore these hearings, or will see them all as just posturing, or (shudder) will watch the scenes of violence and cheer them on. America was always a damaged, flawed, and fragile society. Trump and his minions came in and exploited the damage and the flaws to smash it to pieces. I honestly don't know if those pieces can ever be put back together even in their previously damaged state.
I understand this dread entirely. But I have absolute faith in the American people, as a whole, to do the right thing, to want the same thing for themselves and their families. There will always be a corps of idiots who can bite my ass from here to hell but my money is on the rest of us.

Amen. Double amen.

From a production standpoint, this was masterful. From a historical one, this was devastating.

I join you in that prayer.

Those elected officials aren’t worthy. At all.

I share that hope.

Well, honestly, when I remember that people like you are Americans also it makes me feel a little better. Sorry if that is too sentimental.
Not at all. I am on Team John Dewey. Americans will make good decisions if they have all the facts. And typing that out shows me how naive I sound.
