Is it any wonder that some white parents are terrified that their children will find out about this dark side of our history? I remember what it felt like when I found out that the Texas Rangers were founded in order to drive the indigenous residents out of Stephen F. Austin's Mexican province that would later become the Republic of Texas. The Texas Rangers were heroes to me when I was a child.
It's heart-breaking, isn't it? I remember when I found out that the core reason for the Civil War was to retain some people's ability to own other people. All that time before, I thought it was a states' rights issue.
Sometimes I wonder what the response would be if a white person went into a gun store and said they felt they needed a gun because they feared Trump supporters. Don’t worry, I’m just wondering. I’m not going to do it. If they were black I’m guessing they’d get tossed out or the police would be called. Maybe these scenarios are something the Daily Show should consider.
I remember driving by a well known gun store in the days after Obama getting elected and seeing a line of white people winding around the parking lot waiting to get their guns before the confiscation started. Remember the confiscation, the one the happened before the Bible burnings?
