On Tuesday, former Ark. Gov. Asa Hutchinson ended his long-shot bid for the White House, and the response from Sarafina Chitika, DNC’s national press secretary, was precisely the kind of snark we’ve come to expect in politics. Her statement was:
“This news comes as a shock to those of us who could’ve sworn he had already dropped out.”
Har, har. All that and a bag of chips, except Gov. Hutchinson had been trying to balance his benighted party with a little level-headed decency.
He’s been openly critical of TFG, and the DNC’s press secretary’s comment had all the grace of a wet fart at a party. In fact, the White House apologized, because what needs to be the focus of the ire of any righteous person is not someone like Hutchinson, who wants his party back and was willing to tilt at windmills on a national scale to achieve that.
Yeah, I know, I thought this, too: You’ll see one of TFG’s cronies apologize — for anything — only when Jesus comes back. And the crony would do so only to avoid hell, but this is precisely what is supposed to happen when someone steps outside the line. Even politics should have some limits on snotty remarks. Maybe especially politics should have some limits on snotty remarks. I see this as a good sign.
I am reminded of the profound words of Michele Obama, "when they go low, we go high"! This "spokesperson" should be sh*tcanned, full stop!
I, too, would love to see an end to Tournament of Gotchas.
Unfortunately acknowledging fault, let alone apologizing, has become a pretext for Gotcha Cascade.
But the only way to end the tournament is to keep behaving well-- and narrate why more explicitly and more often.
