We were on a Burger King run, and the 12-in-June granddaughter asked out of the blue, “What’s going on with Donald Trump?”
As it was with her father, we often have our best talks in a car. Maybe it’s because we’re looking forward and not at each other, but I’m a big fan of car talks.
She’s a smart kid, and she hears things and I appreciate her asking. I want her to come to me if she has questions and I want to be honest, so I started with the former president had sex with a former porn actress in 2006.
And then I told her that when the former president was running for office, he paid $130,000 to the woman not to talk about it, and that violated campaign finance laws, and it’s illegal and TFG’s former fixer, Michael Cohen, did time in jail for his part in it. (I did not mention Karen McDougal.)
I told my granddaughter that the rumor is that the former president is about to be arrested for his crimes, and that’s what people are talking about. I also told her that Trump went online to name a time and date (7:30 a.m. Tuesday) for his arrest, and that time and date came and went, and he also called for his supporters to protest, and I reminded her what happened the last time TFG asked for protests.
She sat for a minute and then said, “That’s a lot. Why hasn’t he been arrested already?” And I said that even if we don’t like people, even if we think they are guilty as sin, they get their day in court and we’re all best served when every i is dotted and every t is crossed. And I said that Trump’s day in court is coming. No one, after all, is above the law.
I would have more difficulty explaining to anyone why the Justice Department is trying to stop E. Jean Carroll's defamation suit against Trump.
Um. I may have missed something, but I do not recollect ever reading or hearing that Trump paid Ms. Clifford for sex. He paid her (and at least one or two others) not to talk about having sex with him.
