In 2013 my sister, age 57, was found semi conscious on the floor of her apartment after we called the Norwalk PD for a wellness check. She suffered a serious stroke and I was thrust into becoming her health care advocate. A huge challenge as my sister is strong willed and did not have legal provisions to enable me to step right in. She spent time in Norwalk hospital then on to Gaylord. While she never regained her “fastball” she survived and has lived in the Dell Webb community in Summerville for several years. Depression does follow stroke victims and even their family members. Kudos to Fetterman for facing his disease, may his treatment bring him improved health.
Amen. The reduction of your physical skills would have to have an effect on your outlook. It would mine. I’m glad you were able to be there for your sister.
You know? As a 6”1’ 235 lb admittedly larger female presence with biopsychosocial “mental” health challenges, I know that this kind of vulnerability can impact one’s ability to be taken seriously. Why, I’m huge! Like Tyre Nichols’ tragedy-turned-lesson, I [so] hope this guy’s bravery breaks barriers for the stigma that comes with being depressed, stressed, or otherwise!
Senator Fetterman is a strong and brave man. It is not shameful to have a depression and seek help for it. I hope his actions will help alleviate the stigma surrounding this illness.
I so agree and was just talking about this to my husband. Both of my adult kids have some mental health issues and the stigma needs to be addressed. I wish that it would be addressed like any other health issue. There are biological reasons for it.
Kudos to Mr. Fetterman for his courage and strength in dealing with this issue.
Amen.

Kudos to the UConn alumnus for his honesty in dealing with his health issues

Hi ho ⚔️
We need to have serious public discussions about this. The stigma absolutely kills.
Especially stigma + self-righteous judgment.
I'm working on a longer piece about this now.
Have you published this piece yet?
Nope. Not until Tuesday.
Yup
Wishing him the very best!!

That would be wonderful. And it's long past due.

Strength to his elbow, joy to his heart.
Care to journalists.
Amen to all of this.
