The reason for the outage was not immediately clear. However, multiple security experts quickly pointed to a Domain Name System (DNS) problem as a possible culprit. Around 1 pm ET, Cisco's internet analysis division ThousandEyes said on Twitter that its tests indicate the outage is due to an ongoing DNS failure. The DNS translates website names into IP addresses that can be read by a computer. It's often called the "phonebook of the internet."
The odd situation moved at least one social media platform to be a little cheeky.
So if you are a regular user of any of those limping apps (as are 699,999,999,999 of your closest friends), what did you do for fun during the outage? I met with students. I took slightly longer over lunch (six minutes, up from my usual four). I honestly didn’t miss it. You?
Well I missed it about as much as I miss my ex-husband. ZERO much. Facebook and I divorced in 2019 after Cambridge Analytica took my info and some other lousy stuff happened. Nuff said.
I missed it. I don't have work or school to go to, and there are only so many hours that even I can spend at the library or the bookstore. I depend on Facebook to get the highlights of the day's events and to find out what smart people like Jim Wright, Jim Rigby, and you think about them. Twitter was my fallback, but the shorter format makes it less than an ideal substitute.

I keep threatening to break up. And then I don't. I actually don't have a good reason for staying.

Plus, Twitter is still a sewer. I would know such things.
I also missed my "Buy Nothing" and "Nourishing Minimalism" communities. There is really no substitute for them on Twitter or anywhere else.
Must check those out.
I didn't know there had been an outage until I read about it after the fact. I didn't miss them, though would miss them if they disappeared entirely.

This was an interesting story, wasn't it? I hadn't realized how much people log onto other platforms through Facebook.
Honestly didn't even notice it because I spent most of the morning at urgent care and most of the afternoon sleeping
Good news is that it's only tonsillitis and not Covid or Strep Throat... and the antibiotics are working 😎👍
