This New York Times story hit home, times two. It’s about a group of Boston mothers who gathered to let loose a collective primal scream. (The New York Times has its own primal scream line available here.)
The Boston women screamed about the pandemic, and the extra pressures that so often fall to mothers, but I think a lot of us could use a scream right about now. Last year, when I was out at the grandtwins’ house helping with remote learning, things were so frustrating one day that we turned off the computers and screamed for five minutes. It was actually really helpful.
How about you? Fancy a scream? Or maybe you already factor this activity into your daily routine. If so? Good for you.
Throughout life’s tragedies and challenges I have let the scream out while driving alone in my car. It sure helps even if my scream isn’t as strong as some. You can only cry so much. The frustration needs to get out.
I guess my morning walk is my "scream," and I haven't gone for a few days, either because of the weather or joint pain. So yeah, I'm almost ready to scream. Not just because of the pandemic, but also remote-worrying about my mother and my sister, and dealing with Texas HHS on behalf of my mother when the mail between here and Texas can take up to a week, I realize people with children have a much bigger challenge than I have, and I can't begin to imagine their struggles to keep it all together.
I retreat to my coat closet, bury my head in my thickest coat, and scream like the banshee. It feels marvellous.
I like that. I’m here by myself and usually let ‘er rip in the kitchen. I like to see if I can rattle the pans.

Amen.
I’m screaming and smiling at the same time all the time. I call it screling!!
That sounds very healthy!
And it’s gluten free.
I kind of prefer the Biblical wailing and gnashing of teeth. I mean, who isn’t down for a bit of good old-fashioned gnashing? ;)
I do that in my car. I cannot imagine what other drivers think is going on.
Loose dentures. 🤣
(OK. I laughed.)
YES! I was going to talk lamentation. :)
Exactly!

It’s all a challenge and it is so difficult to have miles between you and family in cases like yours. I will hold you all in my heart.
Thank you.
