Happy Anniversary! I met my wife 56 years ago at the first coed dorm at the University of Washington. I caught a glimpse of her across the dining room the first week of Fall term and thought to myself "there is a girl I would like to meet". I had no idea how to find her, but a week later my roommate and I had popped some popcorn and were eating it in front of our big window. We had the last room on the men's side and there were small windows perpendicular to our room on the women's side. We heard some giggling and looked over to see that window open and two coeds looking at us and rubbing their stomachs. It was visiting hours and we set a record getting to the women's side. I was surprised to see one of them was the girl in the cafeteria. We've been together ever since.
36 years last month. We use the day of our first date as our anniversary. We stayed up all night, laying on the hood of my car watching the Perseid meteor shower. There was no turning back at that point although it took us 18 years take out a license. We were talking about going to a lawyer to establish medical and financial power of attorney when we decided thirty dollars for a license in Delaware, where we were going on vacation, was cheaper. Funny thing, in Delaware at the time you could walk into a store and get a gun on the same day but there was a five day waiting period between taking out your marriage license and actually getting married.
Speaking of who is smarter makes me think of one of my favorite quotes. “A lot of smart men marry dumb women but not too many smart women marry dumb men”.
As for you two, call it a tie. It’s the smart thing. Happy anniversary!
It wasn’t so much a fence sitting thing. We knew early on we were together for the duration. It was really more a practical matter. We have some friends who got really upset when we responded to their questions that getting hitched didn’t really change anything spiritually or emotionally about our relationship. Don’t think it wasn’t romantic though. We got married under a arch of artificial flowers in the office of the Sussex County Clerk of the Peace in the presence of two close friends and had ice cream after.
Happy, joyous, festive anniversary to you two. Here, my husband and I are at 19 years of officialdom with rings, two b4 that of living together - shocking his Baptist parents. Second marriage for us both. Such peace, relief, and joy beyond belief!
Happy Anniversary and many more! You said it well. There are great moments, awful moments and many in between in the rollercoaster of marriage but wouldn’t trade him for anything. 41 years married and 5 years before that of dating. So 46 years of being together all the time since we met at a Beer Fest! 😉
I love this. I met Lori in 2002 but it was a long and uncertain path. It was also the best thing that ever happened to me. I honestly think it literally saved my life. I am very lucky and so are both of you. Congratulations.
Happy anniversary! That sounds like a great partnership! I will think about it as I assure my husband, yet again, that He Has Made a Magnificent Purchase. :D
How on earth did you come to be arguing about who is smartest?
The core of Sheeyun's and my arguments (he wouldn't agree) is that he has the usual bone-deep certitude that male humans are trained in, that he is Judge of the Universe, in tune with Reality and that I am his Supplicant.

I love that story.
50 years married, 47.2 happily.
I love the honesty of that statement. And just look at all us lifers!

18 years to get a license. I guess it took us 5. We traded places sitting on the fence on that one.

In 64 days it'll be 50 years. I've led a charmed life.
Well done. Well, well done.
I’m looking for a pun having to do with the cooking term, well done, and marriage without success. ;)

Great market for great spouses, then.
Lol! Yes, then. 😉
Happy anniversary to you both!

Oh Lord. How long have you got? Honestly, that may the core of all our arguments.
I have the rest of my life, of course. :D

I love hat I wouldn’t agree about the core argument.
Happy Anniversary!
congrats...we will be celebrating our 42nd in April 2022...I would not trade a minute of those years for anyone else
That’s the thing, isn’t it? I wouldn’t traded one lousy minute. Not one.
Happy anniversary!
