I am laser-focused on the Jan. 6th committee hearings, the next installment of which is scheduled for today. But what are we missing? What news stories do you think deserve more attention?
Before I give your question more thought.... I love that you fit "More Cowbell" into this! It's no wonder we are friends!
Inflation and gas prices. We aren't really missing it - we are reminded every time we pump gas or go to the grocery store. There should be better public education campaigns on why it's happening (incl global market driven factors), what will be done in the US to help consumers, and what to expect down the road. People are understandably concerned and a lot of people seem to think Biden and the democrats are to blame. All kinds of incorrect assumptions and false explanations are flying across the internet and into people's email & social media. If that's not addressed, we're in trouble next election. A lot of people are more concerned about the current, direct impact on their lives over holding people accountable for something in the past that doesn't effect them today. I mention it because I'm just relaying what I have observed. I get dizzy trying to address all of the misinformation. It's flying so fast I can't keep up.
That's why we all have to be on the look-out for nonsense. There's simply too much for one person to handle it. See it. Call it out. Include supportive links.
I try. It's like chasing buckshot sometimes and usually doesn't bring people around to a clear understanding. They've been fed misinformation from so many conservative sources and have reinforced ideas from the bombardment of false assumption memes, they are sure they know better than facts presented by a liberal. It's easier to get some people to complain and point fingers than to get them to read something and become informed. It's why Trump loved the "poorly educated".
Maybe I'll write to our senators. It's so frustrating. They need to do more to educate people on the economy and gas pricing in simple to understand ways. They have a broad audience and their words can be repeated by the media, hopefully, over & over. Though, I worry about siloed messaging. Will information ever reach the audience that needs to hear it? Gotta keep trying in every way we can!
The "state of the state" is the lead story now. We have prices fueled by inflation that have many Americans distracted as they are in financial survival mode. Such distractions work in favor of the terrorists as they work to elect their minions. Just see the story of what occurred in New Mexico where the gQp members of the election commission refused to certify the results of the June primary because they don't trust the voting machines. Add to that the latest video of the tour conducted by LOUSEmilk, the Georgia congressman, who flatly lied about doing so. As the video shows what actually happened, followed by one of the "tourists" heading to the Capitol threatening harm to elected officials, specifically naming Nadler, Schumer, Pelosi and AOC! We have to hope and pray the truth saves us from tyranny?!?
I too am riveted by the hearings and whether Democracy will be saved. With too many media sources for news and the opinion network not showing the hearings I am concerned the people who need the information about the coup that nearly succeeded are not getting it. How to end minority rule? And definitely more cowbell!
I can't get past Loudermilk's recon tour of the Capitol. This is insane. Allowing him to remain in office is even more insane.
SCOTUS is poised to reverse Miranda as well as Roe. Expect there will be more states I will never drive through again. Missouri always had a reputation for stopping out-of-state cars and shaking down the drivers for bribes (sorry, Susan) but now it has the potential to be even more hazardous.
I sometimes wonder if I am a 5-year old and when someone does something wrong, I put one hand over my mouth and point a finger with the other hand and think, "You're in truuuuuble." And then? Nothing happens. And I'm even MORE pissed. And new rule, which is really an old rule: I do not argue negative statements about my home state, my religion that are accurate. When Missouri made the think-twice-before-you-travel-through list of the NAACP, what is there to say about that except "Missouri? Goddammit, do better."

That's why it can't be on just one person. It will take everyone, and we can all do what we can and that just may be enough.
I sent off 3 letters.
I dream of a time when people are willing to learn a little economics instead of sneering at the discipline. :(
I actually enrolled in a Coursera class on economics. It was actually interesting.
I hope you found it analytically useful.

Amen. We have to hope that truth still matters.
1. Ukraine.
2. Repressive backlash against Me Too.
3. Continuing Black Lives Matter work.
4. Why the fuck mainstream media constantly portray Dems as struggling and GOP as standard-setter, and getting them to stop.
5. Global warming.
6. The continuing expansion of authoritarianism worldwide.
7. The continuing struggle for indigenous rights.
8. GOP bills making voting more difficult and thereby suppressing it.
9. Flint still has bad water.
10. Cases languishing before the fangless NLRB.
....
OMG 11. The GOP-led rise in anti-trans legislation and harassment.
12. More data and followup on "sending Roe back to the states."
Such a great list....
Yup. All of these. And I especially like numbers 2, 3, 4, 8, 9. — oh hell. All of them.

Great questions. How do we make sure everybody sees the unvarnished truth? And how do we get more cowbell?

My parents, too. We need new leadership, from the ground up. We need honest conservatives. Now.
