You forgot to mention that republicans in the house showed that they were willing to answer questions from a free press honestly and intelligently

Just kidding

There are a lot of awful things happening in the world. It's times like this, when I feel powerless to bring light to the entire suffering world, that I remind myself to bright light to where I can.

Johnson is bad news and we certainly need to keep a close eye on him. The Republicans have all jumped off the cliff with the MAGA people.

Welcome back! I'm so glad you had a good visit with your relatives.

I think now is the time to just do the kind thing that you can in your own world. It may seem small but you have no idea the good you're doing and its ripple effect.

You are so, right.

I listened beyond the early segment about the new Speaker. The horrific rise of blatant antisemitism was important to me. Do I like everything the Israeli govt has done? No way, though I understand needing to take down Hammas. But to turn to antisemitic protests? Talking, demonstrating about needing mass killings of Jews? The ugliness everywhere-the worst of this country is just ripping to the surface now...including the guy who heads the House.

We are not quite in free-fall, but it can feel that way. Just remember, there are more good-hearted, well-meaning people (with all the baggage THAT entails) than there are the haters.

I know that, absolutely. And yet the ones who seem to be in full force are those in the misogynist, racist, "Christian," and anti-government minority right.

Remembering your point MORE consciously is something I need to do.

I tuck myself in at night with it -- but we all need to be talking really loud.

If not quite in free-fall, it feels perilously close to a precipice.

"Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere

The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity." 😧

I fully agree. It was just a couple of years ago when my wife on our daily walk found hundreds of white supremacist flyers scattered throughout our neighboring streets. Since that time this has occurred in other CT communities and even here this hate group demonstrated at a busy intersection. The current R regime was largely silent after the first incident and any of us who studied history know that silence empowers the haters! When these things happen I think back to the ugliness of Charlottesville where 45 did NOTHING to stop the spread of anti semitism and white supremacy!

Jeannette, I couldn't agree with you more. It's getting scarier by the day. I watch what's going on in Gaza with horror. But it is Netanyahu who appears (important word) to want to leave nothing but scorched earth, and both Israelis and Jews around the world who are behind painted with the same brush. We want peace, not more carnage. The only way to achieve that is a true 2-state solution (IMHO) and he'll fight that no many how many innocents are slaughtered on both "sides."

Happy your visit went well! As for the country and the world not so well. Here is Professor Richardson's enlightening lesson on how we got to the edge of the cliff....guns, anarchy, destruction of the planet all while we sit back and watch....

"This may be somewhat illuminating" seemed so innocuous, I don't know why I clicked the link -- but I am glad I did, as "somewhat illuminating" is a serious understatement. I am grateful for people like you and Seth Abramson who champion true journalism.
