Been more engaged in democracy in action since Sept. when a neighbor attended a zoning board mtg. & learned our Town Planner was about to ram thru 29 pages of draconian zoning revisions with no awareness by the populace.
I'm thinking the "For the People Act" really needs to get passed, even if it means fillibuster rules need to be changed. Maybe we all write to our Senators asking they do all in their power to get it done. (Though I think in CT they are already on it.)
I would like to think that the Postcards to Voters go to people who are already registered in my party, and that the postcards serve to encourage them to get to the polls on election day, or mail their absentee ballot, as the case may be. Without a voting rights bill, the extreme gerrymandering for House seats in Texas and other states will stand, but unless and until the GQP finds a way around the 17th Amendment, the Senate is still elected by a popular vote of the entire state. My bet is that a GOTV effort can flip several states next year and give the Ds a majority without Manchin and Sinema. Stacey Abrams showed the way.
I'm so angry. Like Manchin flippantly said: you don't like things... "elect more progressives"!!! That's what we need to do, change the representation!
…is the exemplar of all we’ve grown to despise in politicians: self-serving, nepotistic, arrogant, cruel and an outright liar.
With that in mind we’ve gotta give it all we’ve got in FL, MO, NC, OH, PA & WI and hold onto AZ, GA, NH, & NV, thereby rendering WV and mutts like Manchin & Sinema moot.
Where I sign up, that is. We need 2022 and a Congressional stand on the current assault on voting rights, or we might as well get ready for Armageddon come January 20th of 2024. Speaking hyperbolically, of course.
