81 is the new 61.

This isn't a battle of physical strength, although if it were, my money would still be on Biden, not on that blob Trump.

It's a battle of wits, of experience on the national and international arenas, and it's about knowing how to get things done.

If Trump gets a second term, this nation will be plunged into a new Dark Ages that will make his first term seem like a picnic by comparison.

We will not let that happen.

Today, though, my observations suggestion that everyone over eighty is day-to-day, even when vigorous and in thriving health-- in a way many 61-year-olds are not. (After the age of about23 all professional hockey players are day-to-day in the NHL: it's not age alone, but age plus stress, too.)

Neither Joe Biden or Kamala Harris was my candidate in 2020*, but I think that in the not-that-unlikely event of President Biden popping off or becoming incapacitated President or Acting President Harris would be as well as he. We remain in a world of profoundly misogynistic and racist voters, unfortunately. I wish I felt that Dems would run on program, positive program, big important program that proposed policies serve**, rather than on "We suck so much less."

* I fancied Senator Warren most, and still do, but I will be astounded and a little saddened if she throws her hat in the ring this time.

** The Republicans notably make policies their aims, rather than the effects of their policies, and I never see anyone but me remarking on this strangeness. I would like a Dem goal like "A sustainable and equitable nation and world."

I'll vote for him. And he's been more aggressive legislatively than I'd dared to hope.

But we need so very much more.

There's not only so much ceded ground that needs to be made fertile and nurturing again-- seized from the soil miners-- but we need to work with the entire biosphere we've strafed.

Exactly right. When I voted for him the last time, I looked at him as a placeholder. I did not expect some of the legislation he pushed through. Go, Joe.

Biden's team did a great job with his announcement videos and while I support the President and have misgivings about his age in such a stressful job this article in today's Courant reaffirmed the need to have him win over the guy he replaced!

Yes more white supremacist flyers littered the streets of Rocky Hill. The neo-Nazi hate group is identified as the same group that have spread their hateful litter in many surrounding towns including my city of Bristol....this hate continues and is inspired by 45 and his cult followers! In the face of this anti-semitism and racism Biden must defeat 45 at all costs!

We’re like abused children that ended up having to move in with grandpa in 2020 to be saved from abusive parents. Sure he’s old and corny and goofy and we roll our eyes when our friends are around. But boy is he smart and wise and a lot more clever and knowledgeable than we gave him credit for. And, in fact, a lot more of all of those things than most of us are.

I think enough of the electorate still wants and needs to feel like they’re in safe hands even if they don’t always agree with policy or in too many cases don’t know crap about policy. I think the Biden campaign can get there. I can’t think of another democrat who has the strength of personality, persuasion and leadership who could do what they had to do to beat Biden in a primary without coming out a weaker candidate in the general election. So I think the “Let’s finish the job” message is a good one. We have to acknowledge that we’re lucky to have him and stop acting like we’re stuck with him. It’s not that he’s too old, it’s that we have to grow up.

We need the job named, though.

We've given so terribly much ground over the past forty years.

That’s where messaging comes in. “Let’s finish the job” is the broadest articulation of the the job. It’s the beginning of the outline that the steps of the job will hang on. A good start but it’s just a start. Part of messaging is assessing the voters level of readiness of hear the message. It’s not telling them what they want to hear, it’s telling them what they need to hear in a way that connects to them. Good leadership defines challenges in ways that people respond to, to meet those challenges. That’s where being able to gauge readiness comes in. The better you can help people build their readiness the better you and they build momentum towards the goal. As that momentum builds many of the steps that are needed to take reveal themselves more clearly. Campaigning is a mix of being disciplined and being fluid. The message and job is refined as identified steps are taken. The trick is to maintain a cohesive message as the job is done. That’s the difference between refining vs. changing the message. That’s where the organizing comes in. That’s the campaign.

I’m with you Susan. The alternative is simply too horrible to contemplate. Why can’t the legal system pin something on TFG that sticks?

He's done more as President than most Presidents who were far younger. There can always be something that can happen. How old was JFK? AND he had major back issues. Roosevelt! Lincoln suffered from depression. Yup. Stutter, schmutter. His brain's working better than mine. I wish he were yonger, sure, but he is a strong, experienced, kind, caring President with a vision. I can be ALL in and pray his health hangs in there.
