I so agree with you. I have a hillbilly background, too and hooey is the perfect description. I loved this Twitter comment. "JD Vance converted to Trumpism the same way Ethel Merman Made a disco record: terribly, and just as it was going out of style".
The subject matter of the book did not appeal to me any way, shape, or form. And after reading Susan's take on this sh*tstain, it even has less appeal.
You know? There are too few hillbillies in newsrooms and in media for further reasons, though the bullshit meter is vital. We have been dominated by people who were raised and prefer to live in the terrariums that are suburbs, who think that dirt is icky and that people work with plants and animals as a schtick, to be corny. I think that's got a lot to do with the decades-long difficulty in convincing voters and policy-makers than climate change exists and needs long slow determined wrassling.
I haven't read Hillbilly Elegy, and in the wake of Vance's candidacy don wanna.
And why did people think that he views heroin as uniformly undesirable?
Funny, I read that typo over multiple times and never caught it. But I meant "hooey," as in "crap." I don't think Mr. Vance gives a rat's patootie how I feel about him, but as a card-carrying hillbilly, he really pisses me off.

Great analogy. Thank you.

I am glad to have saved you the money.

I did not understand the slathering when the book came out and passed on the movie. So take that, J.D.
He's such an opportunist! I hope voters see he's in it for himself, like all other Trumpian politicians.
Have you seen this? From the trailer, it looks interesting.

Typo in this morning’s column: “… was a buncha of conservative hooey …”
Nertz. It takes a village. Thank you for the edit.
"conservative honey" works, too.

"Hooey" was one of my grandpa's favorite words. Good word!
It just works.
