If you were suddenly asked to fill in for Pres. Biden’s and deliver the State of the Union address tonight (available for viewing on multiple platforms, including this one, starting at 9 p.m. EST), (and wouldn’t that be like one of those dreams you’d slap yourself awake to avoid?) you have three salient points to make.
What will you say? And remember, the average length is roughly 50 minutes.
The most important message is that the economy is incredibly strong and set up to get stronger. Employment is full, inflation's back under control, we're on-shoring technology manufacturing, we're rebuilding our infrastructure, we're making a college education financially possible.
We haven't eradicated Covid-19, but the infrastructure is now in place to keep it at bay.
We have aggressively worked to defend the liberal world order and keep the globe free and democratic by standing up to aggressive, imperialist autocrats like Putin and Xi. Unlike the previous administration, we're popping their little balloons and we're going to keep doing it.
We made a little progress on gun safety but we still have much to do--our friends on the other side of the aisle would rather protect the NRA than protect you, your kids and your kids' teachers. We are engaged in a state by state fight to protect a woman's right to choose thanks to those same people, but we are prevailing. We have a long way to go to protect voting rights--the folks on the other side of the aisle are trying their best to keep people of color away from the polls and preserve minority rule. But thankfully the people stood up to the would-be political leaders who eschew democracy. They made their voices heard. The state of the union is strong and getting stronger thanks to the smartest, bravest most resilient people on God's green earth. God bless America.
We are looking directly into a major escalation of an invasion on the borders of NATO member states.
This is from the Russians who meddled with our elections. We need to deter Russia with strong military aid to Ukraine and Poland. We have braked the rate of inflation and need to continue the progress we have started to make. We have controlled Covid but if we do not invest in medical technologies that can rapidly respond with vaccines for viruses. Lastly, we need to invest in our youth and enable jobs for caregivers in industry and childcare. People need help and this is a way to do it, we will implement daycare payment tax relief and federally supported childcare in areas that are undeserved. We need to mandate internet access for our rural communities the same way we electrified the nation for all.
And I can guarantee it won’t be anything you hear from the other side of the aisle
First I must voice my disdain for the most recent vote in the house condemning socialism in which 109 members of the donkey dudes voted with every member of the Genitally Obsessed Perverts
In a time in which wealth inequality has reached staggering levels , it didn’t even faze me that some of the richest democrats voted in favor of the bill
Perhaps some members of congress who feel the need to call the police for help should instead find another avenue that isn’t reliant on taxpayer money
I can only hope that this bill will die in the senate but I am reminded of that old saying “millionaires of a feather flock together “
I could be paraphrasing
Also I have noticed a disturbing trend by many in congress to throw shade at some of their colleagues that come under scrutiny for wrongdoing , including “ people “ that tried to subvert democracy
The back room deals that take place in our government in which the haves thumb their noses at the have nots is one of the reasons I sat on the sidelines in many elections , save for local elections , and some of the most recent reporting leads me to believe that it’s the same old same old here and now
I would talk about macroeconomic models as stories about how a complex system of independent actors functions and dysfunctions as a whole. I would talk about Irving Fisher's hydraulic model, a many-chambered water table to illustrate the flows of interaction between sectors, and how the structure of the table matters. About how we've been sold a model for over forty years in which the economy is a hierarchy that properly rewards the "best" by facilitating the flow of more and more treasure into the reservoirs of the selected few, and how this is like tilting the Fisher water table so that in flood times all the chambers get some flow, but the tendency of the whole table is to send the flows into only a few reservoirs. That the set-up of the table isn't a matter of nature, but of law and other institutions, and that it is past time to right the table so that all reservoirs, which always depend on each other, may be filled. And that that is a job for government.
First, before the sergeant-at-arms announced me, I’d look down to see if I had pants on. If I did then I’d know………this is real!!
I’d open by acknowledging the opposition in a light hearted way. You know, just a little good natured kidding around.
“I got call from Margie the other day. She asked me why the Jews didn’t shoot down the balloon with their space laser. She’s a pistol! I mean that figuratively. Or literally. I’m not sure.”
“And speaking of guns, where’s Andy Clyde? There he is! Stand up bro, take a bow! I'm sure that all of us were surprised the other day to discover that Andy’s rifle was, uh,……….well,……so tiny. I mean that literally. And figuratively.”
“George Santos isn’t here. I saw him earlier. He and Kevin were headed into the cloakroom. Hey Kevin, did you see………wait, is that a piece of duct tape stuck to your shoe!?”
“Kevin’s a tough negotiator. He’s holding the line on insisting that the President propose budget cuts. Kevin doesn’t want to be the one to wake up the MAGA base to the realization that Social Security and Medicare are government programs. His buddies on K Street give him a bundle of cash to bite on so he’s doesn’t let that slip out.”
“Well, I had a bunch of policy stuff but I’ve run out of time and at least half of you aren’t interested. So have a good night and don’t forget to tip your lobbyist. And on the way out, somebody should check the cloakroom.”

Lord. This is it. All of it. I’m interested to see if any new initiatives are announced but yes. This.

All this.
I would like time for a rebuttal

I conclude my rebuttal by saying god save us all
I'd listen to you before I'd listen to Sarah Huckleberry.
At least she is looking out for the good people of Arkansas by banning something from public schools that doesn’t exist in public schools

He’s going to need a white board but I would pay to watch that speech.
I truly don't understand. Is it hard to visualize a multi-chambered table with water flowing from chamber to chamber?
