On Saturday, I was in NYC with my better half and two close friends. Went to the Whitney Museum, saw a play off-off Broadway that my grandson directed and took an ussie with friends while walking along the Hudson. I loved lasso but like you was a late comer to the show. Try Shrinking— also on Apple.
You probably know this but Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent in Lasso) is one of the creators and writers of “Shrinking”. His stand-up routines are pretty funny too.
I’m not laying claim to anything but we have ussies dating back to the early eighties when I would hold my two pound Nikon out and test my upper arm strength. At the same time, we didn’t take a lot of them so I like to think we too are “subtle but cool” or as I once described Connecticut, “hip but understated”. Anyway, speaking of selfies/ussies, we’re on Instagram and in upwards of 100 posts we have a total of two “ussies”. We’re an intentionally benign, mostly positive presence, scenery, plants, road trips (see hip but understated), choosing to vent elsewhere (Hi, y’all). There are however people for whom nearly every freaking post is a selfie. Those people, like people who refer to themselves in the third person, I try to stay away from.
The fact that Americans take selfies provides great insight into the American psyche where me is often seen as more important than we. Somehow narcissistic self absorption has floated to the top, and the we is suffering as a result. We need we people in elected office. And ussies instead of selfies.
My favorite is when a complete stranger offers to take my picture for me and I'm able to return the favor. I've had some lovely interactions with fascinating folks this way.
And huge thumbs up for Ted Lasso and for Shrinking. I'm also a Resident Alien fan.
Totally! Love Ted Lasso soooo much! And the innkeeper Newheart is one of my all time favorites; who can forget the memorable trio Larry, Darryl and Darryl and especially the iconic, one of the best ever last episodes…thanks for bringing us to the forefront!
I’ve never watched it cuz I thought it was all about sports too. Will check out out. Tv guide just had an article about comfort tv, watching oldies from our childhood and how it makes us feel.
I take mostly scenic shots or pet shots. Some ussies and very rarely a selfie.
I like to offer to take the photo for a group shot of strangers so everyone can be in it.
My hip California brother-in-law turned me onto Ted Lasso early on. I thought it was a show about soccer. Not so much. I just finished watching it the second time around and it was just as good. Hannah Waddingham's character arc is so interesting.
Northern Exposure -- loved it when it was on originally and loved again this past year as we rewatched every episode. And loved the fact that two visits to Alaska confirmed that NE nailed the places and the people.
I do like the more inclusive ‘ussie.’ ‘ Selfie ‘ does seem more all about me, selfish.
My background TV is music. And mostly classical music. Music choice separates them into light and classical. They are really both the same. Folks will probably think ‘boring’ but it’s me. And the facts that come courtesy of Music Choice can be more than thought provoking. For instance did you know that Bach had 20 children? His first wife had seven. His second wife had 13. I am still in the wandering phase of these facts. Wondering why would these women have so many children? What was the situation? Did he have that much charisma? Good looks? I don’t think so on the second one. Religion? Well thought provoking.
I also was late to the party, but I've watched Ted Lasso through twice, and probably will once more in preparation for the 4th season. Loved the ussie guy!
I loved Ted Lasso and told my whole family they HAD to watch it. Now it’s a family favorite. I was late to Schitts Creek but have watched it through 3 times. And West Wing is my absolute fave show to binge, which I’ve done 3 times (twice since 🍊sat on the throne).
I don’t like selfies but ussies mean community and I love that! ⚔️
Makes total sense to me! You did a great job explaining a terrific word.
I like inclusive, so I prefer ussie over selfie! (And, I haven't watched the show, but now I'll keep an eye out for it.) 😉
It’s really sweet.
I like the company here, and I’m grateful for it.
We should get us a huge, worldwide ussie.

Love Shrinking!
He’s really good in that, isn’t he?

I have yet to see his stand-up, but very much want to.
I did watch that, too, and thank you. I'm always looking for recommendations.
We rewatched Schitt’s Creek. I love the message in it. It took me about 3 episodes to really start to like it.
Same here. And once I got into it, I couldn't quit.

I wonder if they need to do that (share a lot of selfies) because they aren't quite sure of who they are?

Amen.
Amen!

I need to try that one.

One of my favorite shows ever! There is so much to uncover in the writing!

That's kind of you.

Thank you for this. I didn't know anything about these musicians personal lives.
I doubt the wives had much say in the matter.
My guess is you’re probably right about that. Unfortunately.
I can't do ussies or selfies as my arms are too short.
And I’m usually the one people hand the camera to.
