A highly-placed U.S. military official has said the unidentified objects that have been shot down over the country of late could be — repeat could be -- aliens.
But what if they were? Would you be frightened? Intrigued?
But ever since NBC's Saturday Night At the Movies first broadcast the 1951 classic "The Day The Earth Stood Still," deep down I have hoped and wished for Klatuu and Gort to come and rescue us from our destructive ways, since it's so obvious that we are not going to save ourselves.
If there are intelligent beings from other worlds who have visited, I suspect they have warned their friends to avoid Earth. Observe, maybe, but don't risk a visit. The Day the Earth Stood Still was a cautionary tale, despite it's possibly hopeful ending. One look at the House majority suggests the caution is certainly warranted - and the hopeful ending will take massive work.
In “The Day the Earth Stood Still” it’s what Klaatu, the Michael Rennie character told Helen, the Patricia Neal character, to say to Gort, the robot character, so that Gort would do no harm despite Gort’s ability to destroy the earth. It’s a good phrase to keep in mind, just in case.
I know that humans can put lights on things that can fly
I have never known an extraterrestrial civilization that can do any of that
And I am almost certain that neither does anyone else
Except for the goofballs that thought a single engine in East Windsor was all the evidence they needed to know that the town was the hub bub of alien activity and that Skylark airport was like the Area 51 in the northeast
And maybe my cousin , who thinks that there are people and buildings on Venus
"It's not aliens," to quote @Stonekettle.

Maybe it would be like parachuting into some feral toddler playground.
I'd be intrigued and hope we could be able to somehow communicate with them peacefully.
And yet I worry that the chances of that are...pretty small. I mean, our track record isn't great.
Yeah, not likely. Nice fantasy, though...
I just think it would be cool.
It’s pretty conceited to think that there aren’t life forms out there somewhere but why would they slum it and come here?
Just in case, repeat after me. “ Klaatu barada nikto!”
I'll repeat it without even knowing what that means. That's because I trust you.

I knew I was showing my cultural ignorance here. I'll practice the phrase.
Ahhhh. No problem. They would be
illegal !
Read The Three Body Problem trilogy. You will no longer wish for aliens.
Because I rarely tread in sci-fi waters, I hold onto my fantasy that we'd all be buddies. I know it's silly.
I would be curious about them.
And worried that humans would leap to try to genocide them.
That. Precisely.
I wouldn’t be frightened
At least not by the extraterrestrials
But I highly doubt that it is extraterrestrials
I know that humans can make things that can fly
I know that humans can make lights

I guess I want it to be true.
The goofballs in East Windsor wanted to believe before the XFiles was even on the air
