As a parent I can attest to the trauma, drama and heartache that addiction presents as our oldest suffers this affliction! The bastards who want to add insult (putting it mildly) to injuries suffered by the Biden family are scum!! Ironically my wife and I were just discussing some of the wounds we've endured and then I read Susan's commentary making my blood boil. I have NOTHING but contempt for the disingenuous, self-righteous, hateful members of the gQp - ALL of them!!
Based on our experiences and from what we've learned we are clearly settled on the side of addiction being a disease! Families afflicted will attest to this even though most of the population is shrouded in ignorance!
For some people, it’s hard to separate the behavior from the disease. Is this my son/brother being an asshole? Or is this the addiction? How do I embrace the love so w through the fog?
Behaviors - addiction, like other mental illnesses exhibit every behavior imaginable, and even unimaginable! The drug epidemic that is and has been overshadowed by COVID has only one hope, EDUCATION! Sadly many educrats, and the like refuse to provided honest and frank programs - they instead lean toward the foolish, comic book D.A.R.E. programs!
Our general approach to mental health is pretty cartoonish, I think. I wish there were more programs that meet people where they are, run by people with lived experience.
If you have a little spare time, try listening to this. I used to occasionally listen Marc Maron's podcasts and one day this interview came on. I'd be interested to hear your take. I'm not really sure what I expected, but I found Hunter to be nothing like the news reports had led me to believe. Talking with Maron, who is also a self-confessed former addict, he comes across as a "regular guy," refreshingly honest and humble. He gets tough questions and he answers them. He does indeed have a sordid history and he admits it freely--he makes no excuses, he holds nothing back. I found myself liking him. In fact I'd say I'd much rather have a sparkling water with Hunter Biden than with about 99.9% of Republican politicians. Hunter is kinder, more honest, more genuine by a country mile. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93dGZwb2QubGlic3luLmNvbS9yc3M/episode/NzJkNjBlMzUtODAwZC00NTRlLWFkMGQtYWQwMTAwNzJjMTcy
Thank you for this. I’ll listen. I read Hunter Biden’s book, in part because it came out when I didn’t know what to think — not so much about his laptop, but the man the Always Trumpers created didn’t jive with what the reality seemed.
But was the story really even suppressed? It seems to me I heard about the nude photos during the campaign, although I couldn't say where in the firehose of information and misinformation I read about it. Meanwhile, we know for a fact that many stories about FPOTUS have been suppressed by Rupert Murdoch's "news" organizations.
This was the NY Post story and only the NY Post story, which was gained through illegal means. And now the Post is dining out on the notion they were “censored.” The links were blocked for 15-16 days because of the no-hacked info policy but mmm’kay.
No, you upheld the grammatical rule. Writes as he speaks is obviously proper grammar. But no normal person actually says that way. We say we write like we speak.
While I read this discussion of a false expose of a meaningless...expose, I'm infuriated and revolted by the GOP for their embrace of this nonsense while ignoring,j and even embracing, all that has been perpetrated by TFG. His latest social media pronouncement suggesting we overthrow the Constitution? TFG clearly never meant to abide by the oath he mouthed ("I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."). On the contrary, he made every effort to subvert the Constitution. Now he openly not just suggests but demands that every law, including the foundational document on which all our laws rest, be overturned. The irony that the guarantee of free speech those very laws bestow upon him protects him from legal action based on his empty proposal of insurrection is lost on him.
That almost none of the Republicans - not those who purport to be members of Congress, not those running the party apparatus, not those who constantly pop up as spokesmen or pundits - have furiously condemned this fascist action nor insisted that the party immediately guarantee that he will not be allowed to run as the nominee of their party? Anyone who votes for them can try to argue "Not all Republicans..." - but this demonstrates it is, indeed, pretty much all Republicans - and their voters affirm their stance. Other than the infinitesimal number who have spoken out, they are all complicit and utterly beneath contempt.
Sen. Murkowski denounced him, and I applaud her for it. I don't know who or if any one else did, but she at least spoke up. Liz Cheney did, as well (which we've come to expect). But yeah, when the few voices speaking up and against this nonsense are drowned out by the silence of the majority, well...
There is such a lack of training on dealing with mental health issues on a call, and then you couple that with military weaponry, and, well, nothing good comes of that. I really am sorry for your family's loss.

Im so sorry. We can’t seem to settle on where we fall on addiction. It’s a disease and the way these hackers and others are acting is reprehensible.

OK. So I'm listening now. I read Hunter Biden's book and he writes as he speaks.
Writes LIKE he speaks!
Is that the rule on that? I won't learn it or anything, but it's good to know when I'm breaking a grammatical rule.

Wait. I was right? Well, ain't THAT the monkey's uncle. Are you calling me not-normal?

Oh my God. That is horrible. I'm so sorry, Martha.
