1 tsp. apiece of salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder
1 onion, diced
1 can Dr Pepper
1 cup barbecue sauce (more to taste)
1 slow cooker
Spread the diced onion on the bottom of the slow cooker. Rub the pork shoulder with salt, pepper, paprika and garlic powder, and place the pork onto the diced onion. Pour the Dr Pepper around the pork. Set for 8 hours and go for a long hike.
About a half-hour before the meat is done, mix in the barbecue sauce and let it cook another 30 minutes.
You cannot go wrong with this.
Now that I have given you my best recipe, share yours below:
I have decided to cook a pork roast for Christmas and never again wrestle with a hot, slippery turkey, so this is great!
I will contribute a [spoon] cornbread recipe. One box of Jiffy cornbread mix, a small can of creamed corn, a small can of whole kernel corn (drained), 1c. sour cream, 1/2 c melted butter, 2 eggs. Blend butter and sour cream. Add eggs, corn, and muffin mix. Blend thoroughly. Pour into greased casserole dish and bake at 375f for 35-40 minutes, until center is firm. I like to add a small can of chopped green chilies to the batter, but that's entirely optional. An 8" square cake pan works, too. Warning: you'd better double this.
I found a recipe a few years ago that said to use a cup of root beer soda. I cook it in the crock pot and then pull the pork and add in my barbecue sauce (which is a mixture of Sweet baby rays and garlic, barbecue seasoning, and Italian salad dressing). I have used Dr. Pepper as well. 😉
Frankly I prefer it over Bear’s and a few other places.
I use fresh garlic, apple cider vinegar, cajun spice, cayenne pepper, cumin, coriander, rosemary, basil, paprika....have not tried Dr P....if I am lazy I just go to Bear's and buy enough for our dinner:))
I could go wrong with this. When I bought a slow cooker about nine years ago I somehow got one that only gunshot and fast, which I would never want from a slow cooker, and which leads me to despair.
Oh! That's such a bummer. My only quibble with my slow cooker is that I need to start cutting recipes in half unless I'm expecting a crowd. There's just two of us and we both get tired of the same meal after four meals in a row.

I love cornbread and am buying the Jiffy's tonight to try this. Thank you!
I love cornbread with corn in it.
It just feels....right.

I use Sweet Baby Ray's, as well. It tastes like home. And I can see where root beer would work just great.

Cumin! I don't use it but I love it.
