Same here. Eating "out" will mean eating outdoors again. So glad all the restaurants that added new outdoor seating haven't gotten rid of it. Sure wish the pro-Covid anti-vaxxers would see the light. Only they can put an end to this now.
The difference I see from the movie was that Bill Murray learned changes that improved things. Sadly the nonvaxers are not learning much and digging in their heels about masking. If it were only “survival of the fittest” and they did not hurt us, it would be one thing, but that’s not the case.
My son and I never stopped masking, and so we're not changing much. My husband's workplace is careful, so he is less careful, but still on the cautious side.
A couple of weeks ago I was at a small (five people) porch party where a couple of the other attendees were expressing their indignation at the possibility of local schools requiring masking. Because "children don't get COVID." I was reminded of what Ruth Bader Ginsberg said when the key provision of the Voting Rights Act fell.
This? “Throwing out preclearance when it has worked and is continuing to work to stop discriminatory changes is like throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet."
We are going to an indoor concert on the 24th. I'm not overly concerned due to the fact that it's "cafe seating" as opposed to a typical theater with seats next to each other. I'm supposed to go to a memorial gathering (indoors at a private club) this weekend but am going to pass.
We have reservations at a nice restaurant (I bought a raffle ticket and won) for next week, and I'm reconsidering just picking the food up at the curb. Sigh.
For back to school people, I get it. And I'm sorry you might be continuing with testing and quarantines.
Since I'm vaccinated and not in a school, I'm able to take a more nuanced approach. All along, it's been more difficult to see the line that crossed "too risky" clearly. Everyone draws their own line, and they're far from matching up. I will mask indoors in public places. I would go to restaurants and mask to/from the table. (I hope you can enjoy your nice restaurant meal.) I do plan to go ahead with long awaited travel to see vaccinated family & friends who I haven't seen since the start of the pandemic. I am thrilled to hug & get hugs from family/close friends who are vaccinated. I am working as I had been pre-pandemic, but am now masking with some people who are not protected. In my case, it feels sooo much better to be living again, but in a careful way. The isolation I felt last winter was difficult, to put it mildly. I'm so happy many of us have vaccine protection (especially elderly parents). Those that refuse that protection are hard to understand.
I wish people would get the @%$ vaccine. It would make it easier on all of us!
We went out for dinner last night, outdoors at our favorite restaurant. I fear for them and the other places we like to go. There’s a pretty renown brew pub in town that’s an economic and social anchor. They’ve struggled but have gotten through this far. Besides illness and death, I wonder how much the unvaccinated think about how all of this threatens the fabric of their community in other ways. I wonder if next spring is going to look like a new beginning or a post-apocalyptic wasteland?
It’s sad. It’s unnecessary. Mostly it’s just stupid.

Amen. It's really on them -- which is bitterly frustrating to me.

That's the thing, isn't it? The rest of us may get getting this right, but it takes all of us.
I’m more put in mind of the “Body Snatchers”. The un-vaccinated are the pod people.
Of course one of the many zombie movies could be applicable.
Excellent point which I shall now go off and ponder. Pray for me.

Exactly.

But WE WILL BE MASKED!

Such a simple thing. Get the #*$ vaccine.

Cheerfully. Giddily.
