One bread, one body,

one Lord of all,

one cup of blessing which we bless.

And we, though many,

throughout the earth,

we are one body in this one Lord.

servant or free,

woman or man, no more.

And the atmosphere is a world-encompassing chalice we can't help drinking from, and have been spitting into.

Even in mid-Michigan we are affected by the smoke. (Although we had our own wildfire here earlier, now contained and nearly out).

A week ago a friend asked if we noticed any smoke and mentioned the Halifax area fire (in Nova Scotia, Canada). We didn't. He noticed it north of us though he was very tuned in. He was born and raised there, and I think still has family in that area. I hoped and thought it was under control, until the smoke hit us yesterday and our son in NYC contacted us about it. I googled the wildfires map in Canada and my God! I had no idea the fires were so widespread. They need some serious downpours (lightning-free) and international help. For four summers with the kids when they were younger, we vacationed in Canada. And we had been talking about going back up there this summer. We love you, too, Canada

Fortunately, the Halifax fire has been contained since then. Unfortunately, Quebec fires are raging now.

The smoke effects in NYC were really bad. I've read that snug fitting KN95 masks worn outside can be helpful.
