Yes. It’s like writing a check to your mugger but with better branding. As a business owner, you’ve fought tooth and nail to build something real that employs, serves, and sustains people. And then every quarter, you’re expected to fork over a chunk of that hard-won income so the federal government can funnel it into war machines, border prisons, and billionaire tax breaks wrapped in a flag.

That check? It’s not just money. It’s trust. And they’re burning it for sport.

And still we pay—because we’re law-abiding, believe in roads and teachers and the promise of a functioning society. But let’s not lie to ourselves anymore. It hurts because we’re being exploited, and we know it.

What a great way to describe this.

For the first time in my life I don’t want to pay. I did, BUT, I do not like how my tax money is currently being used!

Refusing to pay as an individual is fraught with endless problems and doesn't make a dent. If, however, entire states decided their residents' income taxes would go into an escrow account to be paid as taxes only when laws are obeyed, etc.? Or...Canada can add a lot of coastal/semi-coastal provinces...

I considered mailing the balance directly to Ukraine 🇺🇦. With the confusion caused by DOGE at the IRS, the check might not be missed. 🫢

There are a lot of things I’d be doing, or not doing, if I didn’t have my Mom (95/dementia) to care for. Much like her actions against the war in Vietnam were curtailed by her caring for her mother. I hate that, hate that it keeps me in this country, makes me think twice about actions, but she comes before my values in this case. We’ll see what the future holds. ✊🏻

I did think about. But I know that even if the dogeboys fired everyone who audits the tax returns of the big fish who don't pay what they owe, the AI will still review the returns of little fish like me.

Two words: General. Strike. It's coming.

It’s not the first time I’ve considered it. But I pay and we also pay estimated taxes and the screwy dates annoy me! So I don’t always get the June one right! Why the hell isn't it every 3 months!

I think we all know who didn't pay -- the billionaires and the Trump clan and various other wealthy vermin who haven't paid their fair share or any taxes for many years. If all of we "little people" didn't pay our taxes one year, then we'd actually see a reaction -- but it would take all of us not paying to make a difference by just blowing off April 15th.

The weasels in the 1% know that the majority of people aren't grifting weasels like them. They know we don't have the lawyers or the money to hire the lawyers to prevent us from arrest and jailing for breaking the law. SO -- they depend on those factors to keep us in line, to keep paying the taxes, to not break the laws, etc. Meanwhile -- they see us as the chumps, the schmucks, the marks on whom they can depend to do the right thing which they would NEVER do.

This morning there was a ridiculous "space launch" put on by Bezos. It disgusted me to see an actual former female astronaut being asked questions about what it was like in "space" in regard to a couple of celebrities taking a rocket ride for a couple of minutes that accomplished zero. Worse was hearing Katy Perry, Gayle King, and Lauren Sanchez referred to as "astronauts" when they are no more astronauts than my riding on a horse at a fair makes me an equestrian.

The 1% really does think that they can fool all of the people all of the time.

Agree I had never considered it before but I did think about it this time! I am retired and have a small pension and SS so the fact that I had to pay more infuriates me! But I sent it in and too bad I did not think about a note….

Another Susan here, leading me to think we're all about the same age. I started screaming about this the day Musk moved into the US Treasury. I was convinced by others it's more trouble than it's worth-- they can garnish wages and I can't afford that. But Janet Mills of Maine has paid at least lip service to withholding taxes. Would love to see Dem states do this, but observers have pointed out it would spell the dissolution of the union....hmmmmm

I'm 65, but I mostly act 14. You? (There were literally two Susan Campbells in my small high school. I really wish our parents had been a little more creative but mine's a family name, so...oh well. I'm pulling for the likes of Janet Mills. She could lead the way.

I also sent them with a note indicating I prefer they be used to educate children, provide healthcare to the elderly, protect NOAA, support libraries and the Smithsonian and our national parks - and requested they NOT be used for a military parade or golf trips for the Felon in the Whitehouse.
