It lifts my spirit to know you are finding such joy in leading these young people to discover and offer their best. Being an a journalist and an educator binds two high, noble vocations. Go, you!
I was fourteen when I read “The Population Bomb” and started worrying about the “next” generation. Over fifty years later I’m still worried and then I read something like this. Do I worry too much?
And I agree so much about singing when it's all over bar the shouting-- and before then-- that I couldn't agree more if I had a dump truck. And applicable to so much we experience, particularly now. Work songs, songs of rejoicing, songs of lament, songs of protest, songs of envisioning a more gracious future.
I see that you're talking with people about visiting the class-- would you be interested in having me stop into an autumn class or newsroom to talk and (much more) receive questions about covering economics, when I return to the US in October? I might could make Connecticut an interim stop on the way to Colorado.
I am teaching basic news writing and campaign media. It's tempting, but I think it might be over the heads of the basic news writers. Let me think about campaign media.
I'm hitting "save and print" on this one — joyful inspiration and solid editing demo in one tasty package. And no bendy straws in sight...
As the amateur editor of a little weekly church newsletter, I'm constantly on alert for examples of effective written communication, and this SPRC delivers. (I was tempted to add "in spades" but that's kinda tired — "in gerbils", perhaps?) So, your lesson here, today, to me, is"never cease seeking to tighten, to improve, to catch an eye and a heart"... and, to SING"
Thank you for the bright spot in my morning. From the fifth grade my first love and goal was writing. And that grew into my desire for a degree in journalism. Life gave me unexpected delays and challenges. My path changed. I am a retired RN. The thought of a visit to your class- or perhaps even being your student is a delightful idea. Could I?

I consider myself blessed/lucky to have found two careers I like as much as I do. It has been big fun.

Yes. I'm thrilled with what these students are taking out into the world.
Beautiful send off to what has been an angst week of national news. You inspire, you encourage young people. Have a blissful weekend.
You, as well!
I love this!
You’re invited to the next one, then.
No more formal education for me, but I meant I love the story and how you told it. I got a real sense of what a real editor does
Dammit. I thought we'd have a class visitor. Maybe next year...
Thank you so much!

I am singing now.
We are all better because you are. Ubuntu my friend. Ubuntu.
That's beautiful and entirely right.

I'm honored you saw that in this.
Such fortunate journalism students to be taught by you!
I promise I'm the lucky one.
I think you all are! Glad you get such inspiring feedback from them. Those words always feed our souls.
In addition to all the fun you have, you receive a salary? WOW!
I know! Right?

Oh, HELL, yes. We're done for the semester, but let me know in the fall if you'd like to wander in, and just see what's what.
I would like to. When does fall semester begin?
Late August. I am teaching a basic news writing course and a campaign and media course, MWF.
I will be in touch then. Thanks!
