Congratulations, Rep. Peltola
The Alaska Native is the first Democrat her state has sent to D.C. in a half-century
On Wednesday (her birthday!), Mary Peltola won a special U.S. House election to represent her home state of Alaska. She defeated the political chancre, Sarah Palin.
No, I will not let bygones be bygone. The introduction of Palin into the political world helped create a toxic sludge that birthed to the current ridiculous phase of American politics which can’t end too soon. Palin will make another run at this seat, and I will cheer her loss again.
Rep. Peltola ran in part on reproductive rights, support of unions, and an appreciation of child tax credits in an immensely red state that handed a 10 point win to Trump in 2020. Peltola will take over from Rep. Don Young, who died in March after serving Alaska in D.C. for nearly a half-century.
Rep. Peltola is the daughter of a Yup’ik mother. Here is more on the Yup’ik. And here is more on Rep. Peltola. This just might be a game changer. I tucked myself in last night thinking November just might be a happy time.
My biggest takeaway that had me smiling as I went to sleep was... PALIN LOST!!!
The last time a Democrat held this Congressional seat was the same year that Roe V Wade was decided. Fingers crossed.
