We talked a lot about Trump when he was president, but only when the kids asked. I always tell them that I see the world from my own unique view, and they would develop their own unique view, but here's mine:
Same here. Through church work, I made friends with the dregs and learned early on that they aren't dregs, but people, and worth some attention. Of all the things I learned in that flawed church, that was the best lesson, ever.

I really do try to keep politics as a topic we discuss only when they ask. Same with religion. But I've noticed when they bring either topic up, our conversations go on for a while.
He will be the next generation to carry on the fight for applied logic. I love hearing stories about your grandkids.

Common sense or self awareness is something that seems evasive to many people

As for indoctrination it is easier to do if you can sequester a subject from opposing views
That’s why I cringe when I hear some of the goofballs that I know say that they are home schooling their kids

The more interests and view points a person can obtain over time makes them a more complete and self aware person
At least that is what shaped my life and view points
